The Garage Bar & Bowl spent over a year planning this record attempt, which was quickly thrown into doubt as the Coronavirus Pandemic swept across America. Navigating the changing rules and regulations regarding occupancy and creating protocols and plans to keep people as safe as possible posed additional challenges to this world record accomplishment.
“We chose our original date, May 17, 2020, after months of planning that started back in 2019. Our State closed all bars and restaurants due to the pandemic roughly one month before our event, so we had to postpone our world record attempt and restructure our operations to try and survive as a business. Now, with our state slowly reopening, we are able to hold our event – albeit in a very limited and controlled way,” owner
Dan Madsen said.
Staff at the Garage used their 70-foot-long bar top as the main location for garnishes and accoutrements, but also employed two mobile garnish carts, food runners and mobile Bloody Mary stations to keep guests refreshed between trips to the main Bloody Mary bar.
Renee Hafften, an attendee of the event, reflected “I’ve never seen a Bloody Mary bar like this before, the layout and service were exceptional – so was the Bloody Mary!”
In order to certify their world record achievement, the Garage engaged local attorney
Christopher J. Parrington of the Kutak Rock law firm, and
CPA Alissa Bergman of
Bergman Accounting Services, LLC, to serve as officials, adjudicators and to ensure the world record was both properly accomplished and accurate.
Attorney Parrington provided his thoughts on the event, saying “Waconia is a very close-knit community, from both a residential and business perspective. The residents of Waconia go out of their way to support their local businesses and business owners. At the same time, Waconia businesses take great measures to support their local communities in a variety of different ways.
"Not only will it be significant for the Garage Bowl to hold the World Record for the Largest Build Your Own Bloody Mary Bar, but it will be equally significant for the City of Waconia, who prides themselves on their community and their ongoing support for local businesses such as the Garage Bowl. It is an incredible honor to be part of the Garage Bowl’s attempt to set the World Record Academy’s World Record for the Largest Build Your Own Bloody Mary Bar, which I know the residents of Waconia and other surrounding communities will hold with great pride for decades while that record remains in place."(Christopher P. Parrington, Attorney, Kutak Rock, LLP)
The world record attempt was verified on site by Alissa Bergman, CPA, Bergman Accounting Services, LLC and also adjudicated on-site by local lawyer Christopher P. Parrington, Attorney, Kutak Rock, LLP.
CPA Bergman also shared her perspective on the event. “It is exciting to be an official for this fun and delicious world record setting event. The Garage Bar & Bowl delivered an amazing and massive selection of toppings, garnishes and accoutrements sure to impress any Bloody Mary fan.” (Alissa Bergman, CPA, Bergman Accounting Services, LLC)
At the end of the event, over 150 people were able to experience the world record accomplishment.
