"Initially, the celebrations weren't intended to create such a mass demonstration of Cadillac history on the open road. The idea of creating a parade was thrown up by Lorie Seadale, superintendent for the Floral Hall Arts & Crafts department of the Orleans Fair. He assumed it would help attract attention," the drive.com.au says.

"It sure did. As enthusiasts gathered from all over the USA and Canada, a line stretching almost 1.6km was formed, putting the drive into the Guinness Book of Records. Mr Seadale said.

""Our initial goal was for the fair but it's become a dual-purpose event to honor Henry Leland's legacy and contribution to this country with his inventions, ingenuity and entrepreneurial spirit. It's great to bring the world record back the United States where it belongs."

"Barton, Vermont, the hometown of Cadillac's late founder Henry M. Leland, staged a parade of Cadillac cars both new and old to celebrate Leland's heritage during the yearly Orleans County Fair. By the time they had finished lining up the assembled cars, they had a line nearly a mile long," the Motor Trend says.

"With 298 models such as the Fleetwood, DeVille, and CTS driving the route, the parade was certified by the Guinness Book of Records as the largest-ever parade of Cadillacs. It smashes the previous record of 102, set in 2002 in the Netherlands.

"Leading the pack was a pink 1959 Cadillac Series 62 Convertible--its passengers included Doug Leland, one of Henry's descendants, along with his wife Sally."

"On the same day of the announcement of production plans for the very modern ELR coupe, Cadillac chose to make a very different announcement, though one almost as special," the Motor Authority says.

"The automaker announced that a parade of old Cadillacs, including some vintage cars, had smashed the Guinness World Record for the number of Cadillac models in a single parade. A total of 298 Cadillacs took part yesterday in a parade to open the Orleans County Fair in Barton, Vermont.

"Local, Lorie Seadale originally cooked up the idea of the Cadillac parade as a way to increase awareness of the annual event and as a way to pay homage to Barton’s own Henry M. Leland, who founded Cadillac in 1902. Several of Leland’s descendants in fact still reside in the area and participated in the parade."

"The town of Barton and the Orleans County Fair Association set the world record for the most Cadillac’s ever to assemble for a parade. The record-breaking event was held at the beginning of the Orleans County Fair," the Vermont Living says.

"Nearly 300 Caddies showed up. The Cadillacs came from far and wide. Many US states and Canada were represented. We spotted Cadillacs from Maine, Texas, New York, New Hampshire, Alaska, Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, and more. Many Quebec Cadillacs also crossed the border to be present for this event. There were some remarkable antique Cadillac automobiles that rolled into the Fairgrounds.

"Cadillac has been making automobiles since 1902. The brand makes a variety of vehicles. Many of which were represented in the Guinness Book of World Records record-shattering event here inBarton. Cadillacs present included; a Cadillac hearse, a Cadillac limousine, several Caddy SUV’s and even a Cadillac Ambulance."

"As a publicity stunt for the opening of the Orleans County Fair in Barton, Vermont, a collection of 298 Cadillacs was brought together in a caravan that stretched nearly a mile down State Route 2," the Fox News says.

"The gathering broke the previous record of 102, which was held by the city of Leimuiderbrug, the Netherlands. Barton is the home of Cadillac founder, Henry Leland.

"The parade was led by a pink 1959 Cadillac carrying Leland's great, great, great grandnephew Doug and his wife. Many models spanning the company's history took part, including its newest, the CTS Coupe."

"Specifically, the parade was intended to pay homage Barton’s own Henry M. Leland, who founded Cadillac in 1902. Leland sold Cadillac to General Motors on July 29, 1909 for $4.5 million, but remained as an executive until 1917," the autoevolution says.

"The parade in question included vintage Cadillac cars through today’s CTS Coupe. The previous record of 102 Cadillacs on parade was set nine years ago, in Leimuiderbrug, the Netherlands.

"“Cadillac congratulates the residents of Barton and all of the Cadillac owners who participated in the parade for setting the world record in Henry Leland’s home town,” said Cadillac Vice President of Marketing Don Butler. “The success of this event demonstrates that Cadillac still fuels the same passions that Henry Leland inspired in the brand.”

"Barton, Vermont is a small town with big ambitions. The tiny burg just so happens to be the birthplace of Henry Leland: the man behind both Cadillac and Lincoln," the Autoblog says.

"As such, the municipality intends to honor Leland by attempting to nab the honor of the world's longest Cadillac parade from a car club in the Netherlands. In order to make it happen, the city of 2,800 people is inviting Caddy owners from around the country to join up at the Orleans County Fair.

"General Motors decided to pitch in on the effort by spreading the word throughout its social media empire and dealer network as well as paying the Guinness Book of World Records adjudication fee of £4,000, or around $6,513."
