Winchester, Virginia, United States--Winchester, Virginia, the location of the annual
Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival, the Apple Capital of the World, harvesting 12 million bushels a year, has a giant apple sculpture which sets the world record for being the
World's Largest Apple Sculpture, according to the WORLD RECORD ACADEMY.
"Winchester is the location of the annual Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival, which has existed since 1924. It is usually held during the first weekend in May. The festival includes a carnival, parades, several dances and parties, and a coronation where the Apple Blossom Queen is crowned," the Roadtrippers says.
"Local school systems and many businesses close the Friday of Apple Blossom weekend. Winchester has more than 20 different "artistic" apples that are made of various materials including wood, rubber pipe, plaster, and paint.
"These apples were created in 2005 by occupants of the city, and were placed at a specific location at the artists' request after being auctioned off. For example, a bright red apple with a large stethoscope attached to it was placed beside a much-used entrance to the Winchester Medical Center."
"The World's Largest Apple isn't in New York City! It's in a little Virginian town called Winchester. What…? You haven't heard of it? They claim to be the Apple Capital of the World harvesting 12 million bushels a year," the Fotospot says.
"That is quite a hefty load of apples and Winchester probably deserves the honorific title along with the shiny red fruit gleaming in front of an Antebellum mansion.
"Try to visit Winchester during the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival which the town has hosted since 1924. You'll get to eat your share of apples prepared in a hundred different ways while watching the crowning of the Apple Blossom Queen."
"Head to Winchester, the small town that’s considered to be the Apple Capital of the World, and you’ll see for yourself. This town celebrates all things apples, from farming to cooking and even a pageant. Let’s take a closer look inside Winchester, the Apple Capital of the World," the Only In Your State says.
"Winchester is positively surrounded by breathtaking apple orchards. Additionally, it happens to be among the largest exporters of apples in the country. If you're interested, you can even take the Apple Trail, a guided tour of Winchester that showcases markets, restaurants, museums, orchards, and more.
"Fall is a great time of year to embark on the trail, but rest assured that apples are celebrated in every season here in Winchester. Plus, no visit is complete without sampling an authentic apple cider donut, made with local Winchester apples."
"An apple a day keeps the doctor away, I bet that the World’s Largest Apple in Winchester, Virginia would send a whole lot of doctors running in the opposite direction," the Silly America says.
"It’s huge, it’s red, it hopefully doesn’t contain the world’s largest worm (hopefully!), and, with the recommended four servings of fruit per day, it would satisfy your nutritional needs for months, if not years.
"Winchester, Virginia claims to be the “apple capital of the world,” and with good reason — 12 million bushels are harvested there each year. To celebrate their accomplishment, Winchester has hosted the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival since 1924. The festival features parades, parties, a carnival and the crowning of the Apple Blossom Queen. So it’s only fitting for the town to have a big apple to welcome visitors!"
"The Bloom is an annual event organized by the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival private organization and held in the City of Winchester and Frederick County," the City of Winchester, Virginia says.
"Attracting crowds in excess of 250,000 people, the festival includes over 10 days of events, such as the Old Town Wine & Fine Arts Festival, Apple Blossom Carnival, dances, parades, band concerts, sporting events, luncheons, parties, and much more."
"The Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival® has grown from a one-day affair to a spectacular nine-day celebration. All of the events, whether dating back to 1924 or evolving more recently, have become part of a tradition that celebrates the arrival of spring and the pink-and-white apple blossoms," the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival says.
"The success of the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival® is the result of thousands of committed volunteers and a staff of four full-time professionals who bring this Festival to fruition.
"The first Festival was pulled together in eleven days; however, today, work on the next Festival begins the day following the previous. Plan to attend the Apple Blossom Festival in The Land of Pink & Green."
