Salt Lake City, Utah, United States--In addition to being the biggest store at a whopping 235,000 square feet, the
Salt Lake City Costco was also the first ever to serve as a hybrid location; with the additional space, Costco can offer 2,700 items including pallets of soft drinks and whole lambs and roasting pigs and it sets the world record for being the
World’s Largest Costco Store, according to the WORLD RECORD ACADEMY.
"Whether you’re looking for a gallon of shampoo or a case of spaghetti sauce, you’ll find it all in Costco warehouses from South Ogden to St. George. However, there’s one store that’s the biggest Costco in the world. To get ready, put on your walking shoes and head to the largest Costco In Utah!" the Only In Your State says.
"At 235,000 square feet, this Utah Costco is absolutely enormous. Wear your comfortable shoes. You're going to go for a long walk during this shopping trip. The average Costco warehouse measures around 148,000 square feet, so this location is roughly 87,000 square feet larger. Therefore, it's clear to see that it's the biggest Costco in the world.
"Like all Costco warehouses, the Salt Lake City location houses a surprising mix of just about everything. Buy a new hoodie, the latest best-selling novel, a wall-sized 80-inch television, and a package of steaks ... all in one trip. As you can tell, having all these options makes this warehouse the best Costco in Utah."
"Known for its skiing destinations, mountains, and national parks, Utah is also home to the biggest Costco location in America, located in Salt Lake City, which is arguably the most unique location, too," the Eat This Not That says.
"Standing at a whopping 235,000 square feet, it towers over the average Costco warehouse (typically sized at 146,000 square feet). One reason for the store's massive size is that it's both a regular Costco warehouse and a Costco Business Center. Employees of this location have even been reported to walk up to 10 miles per day.
"Inside this Salt Lake City warehouse includes unique offerings such as a giant dairy room, along with full-sized roasting pigs, lambs, and goats that are available for purchase. Keep in mind that although the chain itself is known for its vast assortment of alcohol and liquor, due to state laws, you won't be able to find those libations at the Salt Lake City location."
"These stores are typically pretty massive — the average size of a Costco warehouse is 146,000 square feet — but if you want to make a pilgrimage to the biggest Costco in the world, then you'll need to plan a trip to the Beehive State," the
Mashed.com says.
"The title of Biggest Costco on the Planet belongs to the Salt Lake City store in Utah, which opened in its expanded form in 2015 (via Only in Your State). Part of the reason this particular Costco is so big is because it was remodeled as a hybrid store housing both a warehouse store and a business center in one space. In addition to being the biggest store at a whopping 235,000 square feet, the Salt Lake City Costco was also the first ever to serve as a hybrid location, per Deseret News.
"You'd better bring your walking shoes when you visit this Costco, as hiking a perimeter loop around the store measures out to roughly a third of a mile. But just remember that you'll have plenty of discounted food and beverage items to grab on your long journey should you grow hungry or thirsty from wandering around these massive aisles."
"Customers may need a map along with their membership cards to shop at the Salt Lake Costco, which is dubbed by the company as the largest worldwide. It's estimated that the perimeter loop of the store is a third of a mile long. Jamieson said the expanded space is about 42 percent bigger than the average Costco warehouse store," the Online Athens says.
"Originally 165,000 square feet when it opened in 1994, the Salt Lake warehouse added the business center to serve customers like coffee shop owners and academic institutions. Now, the facility is about 235,000 square feet. With the additional space, Costco can offer 2,700 items including pallets of soft drinks and whole lambs and roasting pigs.
"Jamieson said Salt Lake City was picked to launch the hybrid store concept because company officials were unsure a business-only center would work in that market. There are 11 other Costco business centers operating in the U.S., a sector that Jamieson said the company plans to expand rapidly."
"Welcome to the largest Costco in the world, with aisle after aisle of merchandise on huge pallets stacked nearly to the ceiling, and now a new business center to make this the most supersized Costco and what the company hopes is a destination for those who need warehouse-size orders," the KSL News says.

"Prior to this newly expanded location, the Salt Lake store had generally operated as any other of the company's locations. Originally opened in 1994, the Salt Lake store was about 165,000 square feet in total space, but the company launched a new concept by adding 70,000 square feet of new space in its business center, claiming the lot directly north of the building, located at 1818 S. 300 West.
"The first-of-its-kind, hybrid business center-consumer warehouse now measures a whopping 235,000 square feet. Put in perspective, it would take just over 800 steps to travel the estimated one-third of a mile to walk the perimeter loop of the entire store — burning about 32 calories.
"The new space includes 2,700 additional items, including enormous pallets of soft drinks, nonperishables, as well as new freezers with whole lambs and whole roasting pigs. Also, there are three new coolers, each measuring 3,000 square feet, with everything from eggs to produce to meats and several varieties of cheese."

The Shelby Report says.
"The typical Costco warehouse store measures about 148,000 s.f. on average, Jamieson told the paper. But the new hybrid store is nearly 50 percent larger and could be a test model for future potential expansion in other similar markets, he said. Currently, the company operates 11 other business centers around the country, with more planned, he said."
"Costco Wholesale Corporation (commonly shortened to Costco) is an American multinational corporation which operates a chain of membership-only big-box warehouse club retail stores. As of 2023, Costco is the third-largest retailer in the world and is the world's largest retailer of choice and prime beef, organic foods, rotisserie chicken, and wine as of 2016.
"Costco is ranked #11 on the Fortune 500 rankings of the largest United States corporations by total revenue. Costco uses a club warehouse wholesale retailer channel of distribution while also selling their private label brand directly to consumers.
"As of February 2024, Costco has 871 warehouses worldwide: 602 in the United States, 108 in Canada, 40 in Mexico, 33 in Japan, 29 in the United Kingdom, 18 in South Korea, 15 in Australia, 14 in Taiwan, six in China, four in Spain, two in France, and one each in Iceland, New Zealand, and Sweden."
