Columbia, South Carolina, United States--EdVenture, the largest children's museum in the Southeast United States, is located in Columbia, South Carolina; just beyond the entrance of EdVenture sits
Eddie, a three-story tall statue which children can climb into and learn about human physiology; at a towering 40 feet tall, it sets the world record for being the
World's Biggest Kid Sculpture, according to the WORLD RECORD ACADEMY.
"Just beyond the entrance of EdVenture, a larger-than-life experience awaits them. Eddie, the world’s largest child, sits at a towering 40 feet tall. Thanks to a donation from Prisma Health, Eddie has undergone a bit of a checkup from his local healthcare provider. Prisma Health has sponsored a major renovation of Eddie, giving visitors a renewed and enhanced experience. EdVenture is unveiling the newly renovated Eddie by giving patients of the Children’s Hospital a first glimpse," the official website says.
"Eddie’s purpose is to teach visitors about the human body, excite children about taking care of their bodies, and it also may pique interest in healthcare careers. Prisma Health’s sponsorship allowed EdVenture to refresh and maintain Eddie’s structure so the interactive exhibit remains a safe and healthy learning environment for visitors.
"While the front of Eddie is a smiling child catching a dragon fly on the tip of his finger, visitors are able to explore the inside of Eddie as they travel around him and up a staircase. Stepping inside Eddie’s organs, visitors can learn how the heart beats, explore how the stomach digests food, and see how the blood travels through the body."
"Columbia’s award-winning children’s museum is home to a very special ambassador: Eddie is the world’s largest 10-year old and can be traversed inside and out in the sun filled atrium of this multi-story exploratorium (his heart alone weighs 500+ pounds and can hold a family of four)," the
Experience Columbia SC says.
"Climb up Eddie’s vertebrae and slide down his digestive tract exploring all 40-feet and 35,000 pounds of this prototypical South Carolina child with the smile that’s three feet wide. And, be prepared for his physiologically accurate and delightfully realistic sound “effects.”
"Ready to get mechanical? A 757 has crashed through EdVenture teetering over the Gervais Street Bridge. This 1,700 square foot riverside gallery offers imaginative play and aeronautical crafts alongside three fully engaged Boeing simulators. For the vehicle obsessed, don’t miss a stop at Auto Works and Dalmatian Station too."
"EdVenture is the largest children's museum in the Southeast United States, located in Columbia, South Carolina. It is second only to The Children's Museum of Indianapolis which is the largest children's museum in the world.
"It has 8 galleries covering 92,000 square feet (8,500 m2), plus hands-on exhibits, 2 resource centers, and a 200-seat theater. 40,000 square feet (3,700 m2) of the total 92,000 square feet (8,500 m2) is devoted to exhibit galleries, laboratories and visitor amenities," the Wikipedia says.
"An additional 7,000 square feet (700 m2) of outdoor gallery space is located just outside the museum's front door. Within the total 92,000 square feet (8,500 m2) there are approximately 350 individual hands-on exhibits. There is also a three-story tall statue of 'Eddie' on the first floor of the museum which children can climb into and learn about human physiology."
"After 19 years as a main attraction and a little more than a week of closing for renovations, EdVenture Children's Museum re-unveiled Eddie, the famous 40-foot boy, with a refurbished exterior, accessibility upgrades and four new interactive science exhibits on the inside," the Post and Courier says.
"The Columbia children's museum received a donation from the Prisma Health to renovate Eddie, whose towering two-story presence and interactive playground-like organs serve to teach children anatomy lessons. The museum often calls him the "world's biggest kid."
"EdVenture Children’s Museum is a must-visit for families in Columbia. They have an amazing amount of interactive and hands-on exhibits for kids of all ages. From the giant fire truck at Dalmation Station to the My Backyard Toddler area, your kids will have a blast exploring the museum," the When In Columbia says.
"There’s a large, free parking lot in front of EdVenture. The lot flows into the SC State Museum parking area, so there are plenty of spots. There’s also a dropoff area at the entrance to EdVenture if needed.
"You’ll get a peek at Eddie, the “world’s biggest kid,” as soon as you walk in the door. He lives in the center of the building and spans two floors. The stairs to the second floor wind around him, but your kids may love climbing up him instead."
