"Measuring 3,168 square feet (294 square meters) and weighing over 9,000 pounds (4,082 kilograms), the world's largest Ouija board known as Ouijazilla debuted Saturday via the Talking Board Historical Society in Salem -- the infamous site of witch trials back in the 1600s," the CNET.com says.
"Ouijazilla was made using 99 sheets of plywood covered in 20 gallons of wood stain and paint. "It has taken Rick "Ormortis" Schreck a year to secretly create this behemoth that will be known as the King of all Talking Boards," the Talking Board Historical Society posted on Instagram. "It is by far the largest board in the world."
"To use the board, players ask Ouijazilla questions and then maneuver a 400-pound planchette using a huge pencil to spell out the answers that some believe come from the spirit world."
"The board, which took Schreck a year and a half to build in his one-car garage in Middlesex, N.J., is composed of 99 sheets of plywood. It clocks in at more than 4 1/2 tons and measures 72 feet by 44 feet,"
The Municipal says.
The 400-pound planchette, or “OuijaZilla’s foot,” as Schreck has dubbed it, spans 15 1/2 feet in length but can be operated by a single person, thanks to Schreck’s inventive genius.
"OuijaZilla dwarfs by one and a half times the previous record holder for the largest Ouija board, installed by Blair Murphy on the roof of his 32-room Grand Midway Hotel in Windber, Pa., in 2016. Guinness World Records still recognizes Murphy’s incarnation as the largest Oujia board because Schreck’s creation is bordered by advertisements acknowledging the individuals and businesses who helped him with his project."
"The 3,168-square-foot board took artist Rick “Ormortis” Schreck a year to create. It was transported from his home state of New Jersey to Salem by tractor-trailer earlier this month," the
MassLive.com says.
"Ouija boards are used as a method of supposed communication with the spirit world. They are marked with letters of the alphabet, the numbers 0 to 9, and the words “yes,” “no” and “goodbye." Participants place their fingers on a planchette -- a small heart-shaped marker -- which moves around the board to spell out messages.
"OuijaZilla’s planchette is 15.5 feet long and weighs about 400 pounds, but can be easily maneuvered across the board’s surface by one person, according to Ripley’s Believe It or Not!"
"The world's largest ouija board, nicknamed "OuijaZilla," weighs 9,000 pounds and measures in at 3,168 square feet. If it can summon spirits remains to be seen," the Popular Mechanics says.
"Owned by Rick Schreck, a tattoo artist and the Vice President of the Talking Board Historical Society (TBHS), OuijaZilla is completely functional and outfitted with a planchette that weighs around 400 pounds. The board itself is made of 99 individual pieces of plywood and took Schreck more than a year to complete. According to the OuijaZilla page on the TBHS, the handmade board is able to park "five full-size eighteen-wheelers" on its surface.
"The massive board traveled from Schreck's home base in New Jersey all the way to Salem, Massachusetts, where it took a team of friends, family, and volunteers to reassemble and prepare for display at Salem Common."
"Located on Salem's historic Essex Street, come see the worlds ONLY Ouija museum and explore the board’s mysterious past, present, and future," The Salem Witch Board Museum says.
"Pop-icon to some and portal to the beyond to others. Has Hollywood given this toy a bad rap or has it earned this dark reputation? Can wood, cardboard, and plastic truly be evil? Discover the controversy for yourself!
"The Salem Witch Board Museum is owned and operated by John Kozik, a founding member of the Talking Board Historical Society. Working with the other members, they seek to preserve and uncover the history surrounding the talking board. The items contained in the museum are from his personal collection or donated to the museum for display and educational purposes. John is available for speaking engagements on the wonders and historic impacts of the Ouija board and talking boards."
"The board is the creation of Rick "Ormortis" Schreck, vice president of the Talking Board Historical Society, a "non-profit dedicated to researching, preserving and celebrating the history of talking boards," the Talking Board Historical Society said on its website," the
NBC Boston says.
The board weighs a whopping 9,000 pounds and is large enough to park five, full-size 18-wheelers on it, according to the society. It also says that the planchet — the peice normally moved around a Ouija board — is roughly 400 pounds, and big enough for Schreck to stand in.
"Ripley's Believe it or Not says that "Ouijazilla" holds the "unofficial title for World's Largest Ouija Board" at 3,168 square feet. That's much larger than the Guinness World Record holder, a 1,300-square-foot board built in 2016 on top of a purportedly haunted hotel in Windber, Pennsylvania."
