Fargo, North Dakota, United States--Located in the home of the Fargo-Moorhead Red Hawks, Newman Outdoor Field, in Fargo, North Dakota, United States, The Big Bruce is a giant wooden baseball bat It's 13 feet, 5 inches long with a circumference of 40 inches; it was named after Bruce Thorn, the president of the Red Hawks, and sets the world record for being the World's Largest Wooden Baseball Bat, according to the WORLD RECORD ACADEMY.
"Check out this Guinness Book of World Records official record of the World's largest wood baseball bat," the North Dakota Tourism says.
"Located in the home of the Fargo-Moorhead Red Hawks, Newman Outdoor Field. White Ash 161 Inches (13 ft., 5 in.) Barrel 12 1/2 inches in diameter turned on a lathe in Wahpeton, N.D. in 2000."
"The distinction of "world's biggest bat" depends on how you define your terms. Obviously, the huge bat in front of the Louisville Slugger factory in Kentucky is much bigger than the one shown here," the
Budd Road Trips says.
"But "Big Bruce" has been verified as the world's largest wooden baseball bat by Guinness. It's 13 feet, 5 inches long with a circumference of 40 inches. That's a mighty big bat. The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks own it, and put the bat in their stadium in Fargo. Newman Outdoor Stadium is shared with North Dakota State. The bat was named after Bruce Thorn, the president of the RedHawks.
"You can take a look at it during a game, or when visiting. It's close to the Maury Wills Museum, making a trip a two-fer. By the way, the place's name comes from the Newman Outdoor Advertising Company, which bought the naming rights in 1998."
"The largest baseball bat measures 408.9 cm. (161 in. = 13 ft. 5 in.) with a circumference of 101.6 cm. (40 in.) and is owned by the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks baseball club (Fargo Baseball L.L.C) of Fargo, North Dakota, USA," the Guinness World Records says.
"The bat is known as 'Big Bruce' and made from white ash, the same material as major league baseball bats. It was named after Bruce Thom, President of the RedHawks' Minor League Baseball team the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks.
"A computer measured the specifications of an actual Louisville Slugger bat and a computer-controlled lathe was programmed with those specifications."
