Rupert, Idaho, United States--In humble Rupert, Idaho, United States, the Garden Cents created the “Mega Maze” which boasted a 3D component, climbing tower, and measured a whopping 96,847 square feet--over two miles of twists and turns, thus setting the world record for being the World's Largest Straw Bale Maze, according to the WORLD RECORD ACADEMY.
"Idaho holds the world record for the largest straw bale maze which was located in Rupert. In it's heyday (See what I just did there?) it was an impressive 96,847 square feet," the 98.3 The Snake says.
"Sadly, it's our understanding that this maze has been closed now for a couple of years but you can see in this video, it was pretty impressive."
"Found in humble Rupert, ID and made official in 2011, the Garden Cents "Mega Maze" had to meet certain requirements:
1. Be fully enclosed.
2. Be tall enough for the average adult to be unable to see over the walls
3. Be at least 12,916.7 square feet in size.
4. Be continuous.
"Official measurements were nearly 8x the record: a whopping 96,847 square feet--over two miles of twists and turns! The now-defunct maze also boasted a 3D component, climbing tower, and more. It was published in the 2013 Guinness Book of World Records," the Only In Your State says.
"Standing at the entrance of the Haunted Straw Maze in Rupert, Idaho, the 30-foot pyramid, slides, bridges and corn pit belie the magnitude of the haunted maze laid out behind it. With unlimited straw bales from Southern Idaho’s grain fields, an industrial loader and one man’s vision, this is officially Guinness World Record’s largest straw maze," the Southern Idaho Living says.
"Constructed on two acres adjacent to Garden Cents southwest of Rupert, Bryan Jentzsch has succeeded in creating one of the largest and most diversified haunted straw mazes ever conceived. By aerial view, the maze looks like the layout of an ancient city with its complex network of straw bales. Performances, dances, reunions, birthday parties and an all-out good time can be reserved."
"Largest straw bale maze record. Known for its potatoes and other farms, a fall getaway in Idaho isn’t complete without a straw maze. But hey, why do a typical maze when you can do a massive one? - the 104.3 WOW Country says.
"In Rupert, Idaho, Garden Cents created the “Mega Maze” and beat the world record of the biggest straw bale maze ever. They used 3,202 bales of straw and the maze measured 1.6 miles."
"A straw maze is a maze built with straw bales. These are becoming a popular tourist attraction in the Western United States, particularly in Rexburg, Idaho and a few locations in Utah. The average straw maze is built on approximately 1 acre (4,000 m2) of land and takes the average person 45 minutes to navigate.
"There are many different straw mazes through the United States including: The Straw Maze in Idaho and Pumpkins and More in Maryland." (Wikipedia)
"The largest temporary straw bale maze was the MEGA MAZE, which measured 8,997.380 sq. m. (96,847 sq. ft.), and was constructed by Garden Cents (USA) in Rupert, Idaho, USA, and was verified on 1 October 2011," the Guinness World Records says.
