Haiku, Maui, Hawaii, United States--Local resident Donald Dettloff constructed a fence beginning back in 1990 from 647 discarded boards, most of which were either donated or salvaged from local junk and vintage stores; now the colorful display is a local landmark and sets the world record for being the World's Largest Collection of Surfboards, according to the WORLD RECORD ACADEMY.
"Did you know that Donald Dettloff, from the USA, owns 647 different surfboards?," the
Surfer Today says.
"Well, he holds the record for the "Largest Collection of Surfboards." These planks are stored on his property in Haiku, Maui, Hawaii.
"The modest surfboard collection is the result of 15 years of investments. Dettloff used the boards to create a fence. Crazy."
"There are around 650 surfboards in the world's largest surfboard collection. The joy for some surfers is mainly about catching waves. But the surfboards are equally as fascinating for Donald Dettloff of Maui. According to Guinness global Records, Dettloff set the global record for the greatest collection of surfboards in 2009," the
FACTgenics says.
"What's better? You are welcome to pay them a visit. Dettloff wires each of his 647 boards to his home's fence (seen above), a practise he began in 1990 to keep them from blowing away in a cyclone. Subscribe to Factgenics on YouTube for more intriguing facts like these."
"Old surfboards never die, at least not here, just outside the town of Paia, on Maui, Hawaii," the Peapix says.

"Maui Surfboard Fence is a colorful landmark located along Kaupakalua Road, just outside Paia on the way to Ho'okipa Beach, in Haiku, Maui, Hawaii," the AMTA American Travel Abroad says.
"It is actually a collection of over 600 discarded surfboards. The fence was the creation of Donald Dettloff. Dettloff's fence was given the distinction of being the world's largest surfboard collection by the Guinness Book of Records.
"Today, the surfboard fence is a must-see attraction for both residents and tourists seeking fun off the beaten path."
"Why It's Awesome: Donald Dettloff's surfboard fence started in 1990 when he heard a hurricane was approaching and wired his boards together to keep them from blowing away," the Buzfeed.com says.
"Instead of taking it down when the weather had cleared, he decided to keep it up and continue adding boards. Now he has 647 different surfboards, displayed around his property in Haiku, Maui, which earned him a Guinness World Record for the largest collection of surfboards.
