"A Vinita tradition since 1979, the World's Largest Calf Fry Festival & Cook-Off features amusement rides, arts and craft displays, live entertainment and plenty of fun for the whole family," the Travel OK says.
"Celebrate Vinita's rich ranching history by tasting the festival's namesake, calf fries, also known as a local "delicacy."
"The Calf Fry Festival, featuring the delicacy of ranch culture, is gearing up to feed and entertain the crowds who flock to this Northeastern Oklahoma town on Saturday, September 23," the 360GrandLake.com says.
"The festivities and cook-offs occur at the Will Rogers Rodeo Grounds, just south of I-44 in Vinita. Sponsored by the Vinita Area Chamber of Commerce, the festival’s highlight is the calf fry and BBQ cooking competition, so be sure to arrive early to cast your vote for the ‘People’s Choice Award”.
"The Calf Fry Festival was started in 1979 by rancher/banker Jim Shelton, veterinarian Dr. John Myers, and insurance agent Larry Green. Over the years, it has continued to grow and attract visitors. “Whether you call it a calf fry or a mountain oyster, you won’t want to visit Northeast Oklahoma in June without stopping by the 38th Annual Calf Fry Festival & Cook-Off,” General admission is free, and gates open at 11 a.m. Tasting admission is $10 at the entrance. The exhibits center on the Cherokee Trail of Tears, which brought the Cherokee people here after a forced march from North Carolina in the 1830s, but the museum also covers the general history of the surrounding area," the
Road Trip USA says.
"Vinita is home to the Will Rogers Memorial Rodeo, held here nearly every August since 1935, the year he died. Rogers attended secondary school in Vinita after growing up near Claremore.
"Vinita also hosts the annual World’s Largest Calf Fry Festival and Cook-Off in late June. (Calf fries are prairie oysters, otherwise known as beef testicles. Just so you know.) Contact the chamber of commerce (918/256-7133) for details on any of these."
"This festival includes a little something for everyone. Amusement rides, live music, craft booths and over 2,000 pounds of calf fries served. Cook-off teams compete to be the best of the best while cooking the best part of the bull.," the Only In Your State says.
"Is there any other way to say that? Held in June, come out and see why this is one of the biggest festivals of its kind- where this Oklahoma ‘delicacy’ is the star."
