"New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), one of the world’s largest marketplaces for securities and other exchange-traded investments. The exchange evolved from a meeting of 24 stockbrokers under a buttonwood tree in 1792 on what is now Wall Street in New York City," the Britannica reports.
"A corporation must meet defined requirements in order to be listed on the NYSE, and it must meet continued listing criteria to maintain its place there. Corporate governance standards that require the listed company boards to have a majority of independent (nonemployee) directors were introduced in 2003; audit, compensation, and nomination committees must be composed entirely of independent directors."

New York Stock Exchange (NYSE, nicknamed "The Big Board") is an American stock exchange in the Financial District of Lower Manhattan in New York City. It is by far the world's largest stock exchange by market capitalization of its listed companies at US$30.1 trillion as of February 2018. The average daily trading value was approximately US$169 billion in 2013. The NYSE trading floor is at the New York Stock Exchange Building on 11 Wall Street and 18 Broad Street and is a National Historic Landmark. An additional trading room, at 30 Broad Street, was closed in February 2007.
"The NYSE is owned by Intercontinental Exchange, an American holding company that it also lists (NYSE: ICE). Previously, it was part of NYSE Euronext (NYX), which was formed by the NYSE's 2007 merger with Euronext. The New York Stock Exchange (sometimes referred to as "The Big Board") provides a means for buyers and sellers to trade shares of stock in companies registered for public trading. The NYSE is open for trading Monday through Friday from 9:30 am – 4:00 pm ET, with the exception of holidays declared by the Exchange in advance.
"The NYSE trades in a continuous auction format, where traders can execute stock transactions on behalf of investors. They will gather around the appropriate post where a specialist broker, who is employed by a NYSE member firm (that is, they are not an employee of the New York Stock Exchange), acts as an auctioneer in an open outcry auction market environment to bring buyers and sellers together and to manage the actual auction." "The opening and closing bells of the exchange mark the beginning and end of the trading day. The opening bell is rung at 9:30 a.m. ET, and the closing bell is rung at 4:00 p.m. ET, closing trading for the day," the Investopedia reports.
"Prior to 1995, the exchange's floor managers rang the bells. But the NYSE began inviting company executives to ring the opening and closing bells on a regular basis, which later became a daily event. The executives are from companies listed on the exchange, who sometimes coordinate their appearances with marketing events, such as the launch of a new product or innovation, or a merger or acquisition.
"Sometimes, other public figures, such as athletes and celebrities, ring the bell. Some of the more notable figures to ring it include singer/actor Liza Minnelli, Olympic medalist Michael Phelps, and rapper Snoop Dogg. In July 2013, United Nations Secretary Ban Ki-moon rang the closing bell to mark the NYSE joining the U.N. Sustainable Stock Exchanges Initiative.
"Perfect place to visit if you are a fan of stock market. There are souvenier shope close by and as such of lots of NYC attractions near by."
"What I find intriguing is the area as well as the building, yea the building is impressive, probably the most impressive stock exchange, but to think of the power that area holds, that is incredible! The area outside is pedestrian only so plenty of area to relax, sit curb side with a coffee and soak it all up. The little girl statue facing up to the stock exchange is also one to check out. Unfortunately due to recent history the NYSE is an outdoor visit only, but still worth it if your in lower Manhattan."
"New York Stock Exchange is one of the most iconic locations and buildings on planet earth. The events in this building makes the world turn."
"I still think it is worth visiting from the outside and taking a photo. After all, how can you visit Wall Street without seeing the New York Stock Exchange."
"The New York Stock Exchane (NYSE) building is imposing. Billions of dollars change hands here every day..."
"If you are anywhere near Wall Street, it is worth taking a detour to check out the New York Stock Exchange. The epicenter of capitalism...impressive building!"
