Mount Tremper, New York, United States--The silo from the Riseley Flats Farm in Mount Tremper, New York, was transformed into a giant Kaleidoscope designed by award-winning kaleidoscope artist Charles Karadimos; standing 60 feet tall and 37.5 feet in diameter, it sets the world record for being the World's Largest Kaleidoscope, according to the WORLD RECORD ACADEMY.
"Original Kaleidoshows were created and designed by psychedelic art pioneer Isaac Abrams and his son Raphael, a computer artist. Surround sound and a musical score was added by composer and drummer Gary Burke. For the 20th Anniversary of the Kaleidoscope, a new show was created by Alicia Ramirez, Shea Johnson and Austin Johnson," the official website says.
"The Kaleidoshow is a visual and sound experience for all ages within the silo and viewed from the bottom up. Through tapered mirrors, the Kaleidoshow images are transformed into fractal figures and the storytelling begins. To view the show you can lie on the floor or lean against the wall, the official website says.
"Whether you are a collector or just an admirer of the beauty and form of kaleidoscopes, we invite you to visit us. Learn more about the history of kaleidoscopes, the artists who create them and the mirrored structures that generate them. Our store offers scopes made of turned wood, veneer wood, brass, chrome, marble and glass. The scopes are filled with all sorts of objects, some suspended in oil and some with interchangeable parts – all of which are works of art. Scopes are signed by the artist and many are one of a kind."
"A mysterious pair of eyes are painted on the converted grain silo that houses the 60-foot tall Kaatskill Kaleidoscope. Nearby, a giant fiberglass fish leaps from a pond; the front half of a fire engine sticks out of an attached restaurant. Like nearly everything in the Catskills, a slick film of hucksterism coats this attraction -- but it's not necessarily a bad thing," the Roadside America reports.

"The $250,000 Kaleidoscope was designed by '60s psychedelic artist Isaac Abrams and his son Raphael, opening in 1996. The elder Abrams called it the "first cathedral of the third millennium." It is the brainchild of Catskills developer Dean Gitter, a local P.T. Barnum. Visitors walk through the mall to get to the Kaleidoscope, while their senses are assaulted by scented candles and Space Age Bachelor Pad music.
"The show is ten minutes of frenzied fractal imagery, very loosely based on the history of America. We see the faces of Civil War soldiers, Lincoln, Stalin, Marilyn Monroe, Native Americans, kaleidoscopic patterns of American flags. Loud synths and corporate guitar riffs blend one era seamlessly into the next."
"The Kaatskill Kaleidoscope is the world's largest kaleidoscope, measuring 56 feet (17 m) in height. It is located in Mount Tremper, New York. It is housed in a converted grain silo.
"It was designed by 1960s psychedelic artist Isaac Abrams and his son Raphael. It cost $250,000 to build and opened in 1996. Catskills developer Dean Gitter is credited with creating the concept for its construction.' (Wikipedia)
"Housed in a 56-foot silo on the Emerson Resort & Spa campus, visitors to the Kaleidoscope will be treated to truly unique psychedelic visual and sound experience," the
New York Upstate reports.
"The Kaleidoscope's whirl of colors flash overhead, projected by mirrors housed inside the silo, just like a kaleidoscope that you would hold up to your eye only thousands of times larger."Viewers can lie on the floor and let the lights captivate them, or stand against the wall as they gaze toward the ceiling during the 10-minute long show.
"At the Kaleidostore, you can try out other Kaleidoscopes on display at the Kaleidobar, each taking you on a unique, visual journey. The store is also where you can buy a keepsake or two, including your own kaleidoscopes and psychedelic art."
"Surrounded by New York's stunning Catskill Mountains, the Emerson Resort & Spa is certainly easy to fall in love with, with all sorts of activities and amenities offered here. But there's one particular area that you won't want to miss out on exploring. As you arrive at the resort, you'll notice that there's a 56-foot-tall silo situated among the buildings. Well, guess what? That just so happens to be the world's largest kaleidoscope!," the Only In Your State reports.
"Visitors will make their way into the silo and either lay down on the floor or lean up against the padded walls to experience a 10-minute kaleidoscope show that's unlike anything they've ever experienced.
"Inside the Kaleidostore, you'll be able to shop around to pick out your own "World's Largest Kaleidoscope" shirts and your own kaleidoscopes that you can purchase to take home with you to keep as a physical memory of this adventure."
"To view the show one walks through the local mall, and enters the kaleidoscope, where you lay on slanted, padded boards and look up. There are currently three shows, a holiday-themed one, a journey through the stars, and the regular “America- the House We Live In,” the Atlas Obscura reports.
"The silo was previously painted in a sky pattern with a face on it, but has since been repainted to black, with an ad for the mall it is attached to.
"The gift shop contains all things Kaleidoscope, with fine-art kaleidoscopes going for up to a thousand dollars. Its neighbors now include a resort and spa."
"I think for those people that are coming to the area for the first time this is a must see and is something not to miss. So if you are someone coming to this area looking for something to do with the family the Worlds Largest Kaleidoscope would be a fun experience for all."
"Cool place to visit. It was out of our way but we did anyway. Show is just about 10 minutes and is choreographed with music. Lady in the gift shop was extremely friendly and knowledgeable about kaleidoscopes."
"This was a fun stop! Unique kaleidoscope show. The stores are cute, too. The staff is very friendly. Be sure to check out the different types of kaleidoscopes, especially the wooden ones at the showcase in the middle of the store."
"The stores are very nice and clean and spacious. The Kaleidoscope show was worth the $5 and only takes about 10 minutes. It was so fun and a beautiful show."
"The shops though were really nice, especially the kaleidoscope one. Most were not inexpensive, but some beautifully crafted souvenirs or gifts. Other shops had a nice assortment of almost anything you'd be looking to take home. Didn't try the café but the resort as a whole looks very nicely kept."
