SAN JOSE, California, United States--In the middle of downtown San Jose, there is a giant Monopoly board (aka 'Monopoly in the Park' and the World's Largest Monopoly Board), part of a 3/4 acre "Monopoly in the Park" garden; built for the San Francisco Landscape and Design Show, the 30-square-foot Monopoly board in granite sets the world record for being the World's Largest Monopoly Board Sculpture, according to the WORLD RECORD ACADEMY.
"While you can only play it by setting that up in advance with the city, it is still fun to see and photograph," the California Through My Lens reports.
"The 930 square foot permanent Monopoly board installed in Discovery Meadow near the Children's Discovery Museum is the perfect photo-op for board game lovers of all ages," the Visit Jan Jose reports.
"The massive board is made of granite slabs and covers over 900 square feet in the park," Atlas Obscura reports.
"Each of the massive corner slabs weighs in at almost 250 pounds, while each of the regular spaces, while smaller, still tips the scales at around 140 pounds. There are also massive ornamental dice installed on the grounds to complete the feel of being a Lilliputian who wandered into a giant’s game night."
"It was fun to also see the board "personalized" to local attractions. For example, the Boardwalk Monopoly space had the words "Santa Cruz Boardwalk" on it. The jail square had the words County of Santa Clara Department of Corrections. Go to jail had "San Jose police department...." and so on. It takes just a few minutes to see. Its by an assortment of interesting animal sculptures as well."
"It’s an amazing idea & a great way to promote family time or let the community gather and have some fun."
"It's very interesting to see something like this, although I guess you can only really fully appreciate it if you like playing Monopoly whether that be against other people or a computer."
"Just a fun stop to make if you're a fan of the board game. Not much to do here besides enjoy the park: picnic, play, etc."
