World's largest squirrel sculpture: Cedar Creek, Texas, sets world record

Cedar Creek, Texas, United States--Ms. Pearl, the beloved giant squirrel statue and mascot of the Berdoll Pecan Candy and Gift Company, is a giant, 14ft squirrel statue located in in Cedar Creek, Texas, United States, which sets the world record for being the Worlds Largest Squirrel Statue, according to the WORLD RECORD ACADEMY.

"Standing at 14 feet tall, Ms. Pearl beckons anywhere from 30 to 100 passersby a day from the highway to have their picture taken with her," Atlas Obscura reports.

"If you’re wondering why she is clutching a pecan bigger than your head, it probably has something to do with the nearby Berdoll Pecan Candy & Gift Company, a family-owned business that includes a gift shop, a pecan orchard, and an enormously adorable squirrel statue.

"She is available 24 hours a day and while the nearby gift shop has regular business hours, there is an eternally available vending machine outside the shop with fresh, full-sized pecan pies replenished daily for any late night, squirrel-inspired snacking needs."

Originally constructed in August of 2011 by Blue Genie Art Industries for Berdoll, Ms. Pearl received her sassy name from a customer as part of a contest. In 2015, the squirrel goddess received a facelift in the form of a fresh coat of paint as well as a deck to support her many worshipers.

"My name was given to me by a customer of Berdoll Pecan Candy and Gift Company. There was a contest to see who could come up with the best name, and “Ms. Pearl” won. It’s sassy, fun and it suits me perfectly.

At 14 feet tall, I’m the largest squirrel statue in the world.

People take my picture anywhere from 30 to 100 times a day.

I had a makeover in June of 2015. I received a coat of fresh paint and a brand new deck. It’s easy to climb up and give me a hug.

I’ve been on TV and in print so many times, I’ve lost count. TexasTripper.com, RoadsideAmerica.com and AllAcrossTexas.com are among those who have featured me.

Rare™ named me one of the “10 Weirdest Things in Texas You Have to See to Believe”.

Racecar driver Rodney Sterling Jr. is one of my biggest fans. He even posed for a picture with me, holding his pet finger monkey.

The GUINNESS WORLD RECORD for the largest squirrel is the Indian or Malabar giant squirrel (Ratufa indica), endemic to deciduous and moist evergreen forests in peninsular India. It can grow to 1 m in total length, two thirds of which constitute its long bushy tail.

GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS also recognized the world record for the largest collection of squirrel-related items; it belongs to Pavel Gerasimov and consists of 1,103 items as of 14 October 2013. Pavel Gerasimov's collection consists of a variety of squirrel statuettes. One statuette dates from the 19th century and another is made entirely of gold.
