"Three boys are looking for help from 500 children so that they can set a new Guinness World Record. To date, the longest rope ever used in a game of tug-of-war is 518m, but three 10-year-olds from Tonbridge aim to beat that," the Kent Online says.

"Owen Calvert, Freddie Smith and Otis Sampson will be using a specially manufactured rope of 540m in length for their world record attempt at the Tonbridge Racecourse Ground on Sunday, June 30, at 3pm.

"But as one of the rules is that no part of the rope can touch the ground, they need plenty of help to hold it up."

"The longest distance game of tug of war is 516.85 metres, achieved by Foundation Coleg Sir Gar, Pembrey Country Park, and Wales YFC (all Wales), at Cefn Sidan Beach, Wales, UK, on 1 March 2024," the Guinness World Records says.

"100 people participated in the game which lasted 1 minute 15 seconds. Rugby players Scott Quinnell and Elinor Snowsill captained the two teams with Elinor's team taking the win."
