"The Seha Virtual Hospital has been officially recognized by Guinness World Records as the largest virtual healthcare provider in the world. The Vice Minister of Health for Planning and Development, Eng. Abdulaziz Al-Rumaih, accepted the certificate during the Global Health Exhibition, held at the Riyadh Exhibition and Convention Center in Malham," The Saudi Press Agency reports.
 

"This milestone highlights Seha Virtual Hospital's pioneering role in enhancing virtual healthcare quality and delivering innovative healthcare services through advanced telemedicine technologies. The recognition also underscores Saudi Arabia's commitment to digital transformation in the health sector and the continuous improvement of patient care.

"The hospital currently offers its remote healthcare services to over 200 hospitals, specializing in rare and complex medical cases. This enables patients to receive comprehensive medical care in their local areas, eliminating the need for long-distance travel and significantly improving access to quality healthcare across the Kingdom."

"The first in the Middle East and the biggest of its kind in the world, Seha Virtual Hospital in Saudi Arabia reflects the long-term transformative effects of technology on the healthcare industry," the WIRED says.

"Supporting more than 160 hospitals around the Kingdom, Seha Virtual Hospital provides 15 main specialized health services including emergency and critical consultations on strokes and daily critical care tours; specialized clinics on blood diseases, psychiatry, kidney disease, endocrinology and diabetes, genetic and metabolic diseases, geriatric diseases, medical rehabilitation, and heart disease; medical support services on virtual rays, pathology, and pharmacy services; and home care services over 30 sub-specialty services.

"The hospital employs more than 75 physicians and has a capacity of 400,000 patients annually. Thanks to this new, virtual, way of doing medicine, patients don’t have to travel to get access to the best services and doctors. Instead, they can be treated remotely, allowing for fairer, quicker, and less expensive access to care from any region of the country."

"The SEHA Virtual Hospital, opened in 2022 in response to the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic, is among the world's first endeavours to introduce large-scale virtual care to mainstream health services," the Global Health Exhibition's official press release says.

"The hospital, which provides services to over 200 hospitals around the Kingdom, delivers a wide range of virtual services to patients including virtual critical and urgent care, virtual medical support services, virtual scheduled specialized care, virtual home care services and virtual medical consultations.

"The virtual hospital also provides multidisciplinary teams, where healthcare professionals in different locations meet easily to review cases and reach faster consensus on treatment pathways."

"The SEHA Virtual Hospital utilises artificial intelligence to rank and prioritise urgent patient needs where intervention is required. Using advanced algorithms, it is capable of rapidly processing imaging for stroke diagnosis, brain CT scans and lung disease diagnosis," the Global Health Exhibition's official press release says.

"It also utilises internet-of-things technology enabling continuous virtual monitoring of patients living with heart failure. This is particularly important for patients living in remote or rural regions where physical travel to a hospital environment is difficult or impossible.

"Virtual Hospital visits also integrate directly with electronic health records and can even remotely manage pharmacy prescriptions, meaning increases in management of patients from their homes. The SEHA Virtual Hospital has already produced impressive results, including a decreased Length of Stay (LoS) in adult intensive care units to four days, reduced door-to-CT scan in cases of stroke to 25 minutes, door-to-needle times to 28 minutes, and the average time to issue a radiology report to two hours."

"Virtual wards — in which a limited number of patients are monitored at home via sensors and other equipment — have become increasingly common in health systems. But Seha Virtual Hospital in Riyadh has adopted this approach on a grand scale and has been recognized as the world’s biggest virtual hospital by the Guinness Book of Records," the Financial Times reports.



"Mona Sahman Al-Subaie, chief executive, says the facility had been established as part of a broader plan to improve the health of people in the Kingdom. She says that it offers solutions to challenges including “geographical distances, the lack of specialised resources, the high cost of healthcare and trying to improve the experience of the patients”.

"After that technology had proven its worth, the full-blown virtual hospital was launched by the Saudi ministry of health in 2022. It now works with 224 traditional hospitals, offering patients access to remote expertise in 44 specialised services, including cardiology, critical care, neurology and psychiatry."
