Union Bridge, Maryland, United States--Ryan's Tree Farm regained the record with a 116-foot wide, 9,000 lbs Christmas wreath; it consisted of 200 pine trees woven into a steel wire and pine wood frame decorated with roughly 300 feet of ribbon; the super-sized Christmas tradition sets the world record for being the World's Largest Christmas Wreath, according to the WORLD RECORD ACADEMY.
"The contemporary holiday wreath combines traditions from the 16th century, adding lights to replace the original four-candle design, one for each Sunday before Christmas. In Central Maryland, one family has continued the celebratory foliage, achieving the impossible,"
The Travel reports.
"By creating super-sized wreaths made of pine, ribbon, and wood, they have gained global recognition and continued the legacy of a family-owned pine tree farm. So, if you are in the Chesapeake area for the holidays and want to visit a little piece of history, central Maryland was once home to the Guinness Book of Records' Largest Christmas Wreath."
"Many places across the US do not celebrate Christmas, but each year in Clemsonville, people visit the farm from November 29th to Christmas Eve at 5 pm. In addition to the award-winning wreath, the barn houses a retail store with Christmas ornaments, treats, and hot chocolate," The Travel reports.
"As the story goes, Ryan saw a newspaper piece about a wreath and a Guinness World Record. He jumped into action and enlisted the help of his son, employees, and volunteers. The rest is history.
"In 1992, Ryan's Tree Farm regained the record with a 116-foot wide, 9,000 lbs Christmas wreath. It consisted of 200 pine trees woven into a steel wire and pine wood frame decorated with roughly 300 feet of ribbon."
"A wreath is an assortment of flowers, leaves, fruits, twigs, or various materials that is constructed to form a ring shape.
"In English-speaking countries, wreaths are used typically as household ornaments, most commonly as an Advent and Christmas decoration. They are also used in ceremonial events in many cultures around the globe. They can be worn as a chaplet around the head, or as a garland around the neck.
"Advent and Christmas wreaths are now a popular symbol in preparation for and to celebrate the coming of Christ, with the former being used to mark the beginning of the Christian Church's liturgical year and both serving as décor during Advent and Christmas festivities. While Advent wreaths are erected on stands or placed on tables, Christmas wreaths are often hung on doors or walls." (Wikipedia)
"The most wreaths made by an individual in 24 hours is 70 and was set by Carolann Naugle (Canada) at the Nova Scotia Recreation Centre, Nova Scotia, Canada, on 23-24 November 2012.," the Guinness World Records says.
"The
largest artificial wreath is 6.51 m (21 ft 4 in) in diameter, and was achieved by Goto City World Heritage Register Promotion Council (Japan) at Goto Citizen Gymnasium in Goto, Nagasaki, Japan, on 17 February 2019," the
Guinness World Records says.
"The 11,200 origami Camelia flowers used to decorate the wreath were made by 1,589 students from 26 elementary and junior high schools across the archipelago."
"Come see a Christmas wonder created by nature and man. Just like the famous faces of the Presidents carved into the side of Mt. Rushmore, this “Everlasting” Christmas Tree is made out of limestone rock and measures over 50 feet," the official website says.
"It was amazingly carved by nature’s hand and is decorated with fresh evergreens for the Christmas season. An eternal star of hope is at the top of the tree and gifts are under it to bring happiness to all and to all a Merry Christmas!"
