Gainesville, Florida, United States--The "Gator Record Breaker" event at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in Gainesville saw a team of 30 UF students from the University of Florida running in a circle and fist-bumping Albert Gator, 340 times in three minutes, setting the world record for the Most fist bumps by a mascot in three minutes, according to the WORLD RECORD ACADEMY.
"The University of Florida broke a Guinness World Record when its mascot, Albert Gator, fist-bumped students 340 times in three minutes,"the UPI reports.
"The "Gator Record Breaker" event at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in Gainesville saw a team of 30 UF students running in a circle and fist-bumping Albert as many times as they could in the three minute time period.
"The attempt ended with Albert doling out 340 fist bumps, breaking the previous record of 220."
"The most fist bumps by a mascot in three minutes is 340, achieved by the University of Florida (USA) in Gainesville, Florida, USA, on 17 February 2023," the
Guinness World Records says.
"This record was set by Albert the Alligator, the mascot for the University of Florida. The record attempt location was The Swamp, the school's American football stadium."
"The record-breaking event was organized by the university and saw hundreds of students wait in line for hours underneath the rain to be among the 340 fist bumps that Albert recorded," the Gators Wire reports.
"The previous record was 220 fist bumps. The event took place on Steve Spurrier field at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, a location that has seen a fair share of records broken throughout the years.
"Logistically, the students selected to participate ran around in a circle for three minutes while Albert stood on the field with his hand, or leg rather, extended to fist bump the students as they made history together."
"The University of Florida hosted a Guinness World Record event. Hundreds of students waited in the pouring rain to be a part of history," the WJCB TV20 reports.
"The Gator Record Breaker event challenged students to set a world record for most fist bumps by a mascot in three minutes. An official from the Guinness World Record company was in attendance to verify the record and confirm the attempt.
"The record was 220 fist bumps but now the Gators have the new world record with 340. Lageyre explained the feeling when they announced they got the record."
"In the center of Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, 30 people were chosen to run in a circular formation and fist-bump Albert more than 220 times, the existing record for fist-bumping a mascot in 3 minutes," the Alahua Chronicles reports.
"Despite the swampy grass, Albert beat the record. He was fist-bumped 340 times! The song “Eye of the Tiger” played, and each bump intensified as the song and challenge progressed. The Gators got closer to surpassing the record and eventually succeeded, going on to obliterate it.
"Albert won big, and so did the Gators. Pizza was provided for all of the students in attendance. It is every student’s dream, across the nation, to be the best of the best, and our fans felt it. There is no better way to celebrate such an unimaginable feat than being tossed a UF t-shirt to commemorate the victory, and they got that, too."
