Daytona Beach, Florida, United States--Attendees at the National Beard and Mustache Championships in Florida stood side-by-side, and their facial hair was clipped together into an 86-person chain measuring 195 feet and 3 inches long, thus setting the new world record for the Longest beard chain, according to the WORLD RECORD ACADEMY.
"Attendees at the National Beard and Mustache Championships in Florida broke three Guinness World Records for the longest chains of beards, mustaches and partial beards," the UPI reports.
"The annual event, which is held in a different location each year by Beard Team USA, saw participants take on the three record titles on the Main Street Pier in this year's host city: Daytona Beach. The facial hair fanatics first attempted the record for the longest beard chain, which was previously set at 150 feet during the previous year's National Beard and Mustache Championships.
"The beard-sporting participants stood side-by-side, and their facial hair was clipped together into an 86-person chain measuring 195 feet and 3 inches long."
"A chain of facial hair measuring 195 ft 3 in (59.51 m) was formed by 86 participants at the US National Beard and Moustache Championships in Daytona Beach, Florida, USA, on 3 November 2023," the
Guinness World Records says.
"This attempt was one of a few facial-hair chains formed as part of the 2023 Honest Amish/Beard Team USA National Beard and Moustache Championships, held in the Peabody Auditorium in Daytona Beach."
"The World Beard and Moustache Championships is a biennial competition overseen by the World Beard and Moustache Association (WBMA), in which men with beards and moustaches display lengthy, highly styled facial hair.
"Since 2004, the WBMA has been the governing body for the championships. This association is fully responsible for awarding the contest to member clubs. Any club may apply for membership to the WBMA and applications to host an upcoming WBMC will be accepted from established clubs.
"There are three brackets of facial hair: moustache, partial beard, and full beard. Each bracket is broken into individual categories. There are usually 17 categories but there were 18 different categories for the 2009, 2013 & 2015 championships, and a 27 categories for 2017, including for the first time 4 "craft beard" (ladies / "whiskerina") categories." "The World Beard and Moustache Championships is overseen by the World Beard and Moustache Association. During the occurrence of the WBMC, that years WBMC Host organizes the biennial (usually) WBMA meeting," the official website of the
World Beard and Moustache Championships says.
At this meeting, WBMA member clubs listen to proposals from future WBMC host candidates and after the proposals are finished, all members will vote in person or by proxy to decide the host and location of the WBMC 4 years after.
"The next World Beard and Moustache Championships is in Pittsburgh, PA, USA July 4th through 6th, 2025. The 2025 championships will be hosted by the Mad Viking Beard Club - PA."
"For the sake of these competitions, there are 4 categories of facial hair: Moustache, Partial Beard, Craft Beard, and Full Beard. Under each of those banners are the different divisions, or CLASSES. For example: The Garibaldi class is in the Full Beard Category," the National Beard and Moustache Championships® and Beard Team USA® website says.
"Q. What is the Exhibition/Amateur contest all about?
A. This is like a preview of the main event, especially for people who have never witnessed a beard competition. The divisions will be more fun and the overall vive is less serious. It is a great entry-level event to get anyone warmed up for being on the stage at Nationals."

"Imagine a sunny day in Daytona Beach, Florida, where the air smells like salt and sunscreen, and there's a buzz in the air that's not just from the seagulls. It's the National Beard and Mustache Championships, and this year, things are getting hairy in the best way possible," the
Gator 99.5 reports.
"Beard Team USA, a group of people who love facial hair more than a cat loves catnip, hosts this wild event every year. They pick a new spot each time, and for this round, Main Street Pier is where the magic happens. Think of it as the Olympics, but instead of running or swimming, it's all about who has the most impressive facial fuzz.
"First up was the beard chain. Picture this: a bunch of folks standing shoulder to shoulder, their beards clipped together like a furry, living rope. Last year, the record was set at a whopping 150 feet. That's like laying down about 25 grown-ups head to toe! But this year, the Beardos went above and beyond. They formed an 86-person beard chain stretching an incredible 195 feet and 3 inches."
"In a very hairy sight, Beard Team USA came together for the National Beard and Moustache Championships in Florida to set two new world records, and broke their own previous record for the world’s longest beard chain," the
Metro.co.uk says.
89 people tied their impressive chin whiskers together at the annual meeting in November, with the facial hair entanglement reaching 60 metres, which is roughly the same length as a 20-storey building – or two blue whales.
"The meeting took place on Florida’s world-famous Main Street Pier, with flocks of families and spectators witnessing the beard bonanza. The Championship takes place in a different part of the US every year, travelling across the nation."
"This is such a unique event, and we’re absolutely thrilled that they have chosen the Daytona Beach area for their national championships,” said Lori Campbell Baker, Executive Director of the Daytona Beach Area Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB).
“Beard aficionados - and their many fans - will be traveling to the Daytona Beach area from throughout the United States for these championships. We know they will have a positive, one-of-a-kind experience and we hope they schedule some extra time, to enjoy all the new attractions, restaurants, and activities that our community has to offer.”
"We are excited to bring the championships to Daytona Beach,” said Bryan Nelson, Creative Director of the event organizer at Beard Team USA," the Daytona Beach reports.
“This will be the first time that the Nationals have been held in Florida and we are looking forward to seeing the fabulous local facial hair that the Sunshine State has to offer. We have over 45 divisions that cover almost every style of facial hair, from Moustaches to sideburns, from short beards to long beards, and even a few craft divisions where women (and some men) will compete with their own artistic creations. There is something for everyone and it is a surprisingly fun way to spend an afternoon.”
