The Hero Dog with the most participation in a National Day parade: Max the Hero Dog

Bucharest, Romania--Max the Hero Dog, a German Shepherd trained by Valentin Roșioara to be a battle dog of the Romanian Army (Land Forces), decorated for special merits in the rank of Knight, was the star of the Romanian National Day parades in Bucharest, Romania for three years, setting the world record for being The Hero Dog with the most participation in a National Day Parade, according to the WORLD RECORD ACADEMY.

"Max is a German shepherd dog trained since he was a puppy to detect mines, bombs and explosives. Due to his extraordinary qualities, he arrived in the middle of the war, in Afghanistan. The first fighting dog in Romania in a theater of war. He endured extreme temperatures and harsh conditions in the desert, but he saved many lives. He returned alive, unharmed and a hero. For three years he was the star of the December 1st parades. He was standing towering, motionless, on an armored car, next to platoon leader Major Valentin Roşioara, his partner, friend and trainer. At one point, in the summer, there was no more moisture,"the Click! magazine says.

"A vet gave the diagnosis: heart disease. His retirement was decided. "According to the law, Max is an inventory item of the Army, and after the withdrawal it had to end up in the hands of the Hungarians. I managed to obtain temporary custody for 6 months, which can be renewed", economist Sorina Hanea, an animal lover from Bucharest, told us. After further analysis, the diagnosis was cruel. All internal organs are infected with 35 cm long worms and their larvae. The disease is called heartworm disease. It seems that Max was stung by a mosquito.

"Click! reporters met Max after doctors removed two liters of fluid from his abdomen. He was curious to smell us and sat as he was asked. "Max is extraordinarily gentle. When his belly hurts, he approaches you and asks you to caress him. Now he is undergoing treatment and will escape with his life, but he will remain cardiac, even if he is only six years old", Sorina Hanea told reporters.

"Max, the hero dog, was a German Shepherd, born on June 4, 2009 and died on September 9, 2015, Bucharest. The battle dog of the Romanian Army (Land Forces) was one of the main stars of the parades under the Arc de Triomphe, along with the Cavalry Detachment of the Romanian Gendarmerie and the military aviation technique.

"Genist Valentin Roșioara, Max's instructor, explained that the German shepherd "was trained to detect explosive substances and thanks to his qualities, many mines and homemade bombs no longer claimed lives. He performed control, patrol, search, search missions in his first mission in Afghanistan. The two missions in Afghanistan were within the 2nd Infantry Battalion "Călugăreni" and the 300th Infantry Battalion "Sfântul Andrei".

"Back in the country, Max was found to be infested with heartworms (heartworms). Because there was no law for his case, Max was "disposed". A lady with a big soul, Sorina Hanea, an old militant with notable results in the protection of animals, requested him from the Army and, believing firmly in his healing, fought to save his life. Under the care of doctor Liviu Gaita, Max benefited from treatment and a lot of affection." (Wikipedia)

"The German shepherd wore the tricolor and was decorated for special merits in the rank of knight. He had a reason. Max saved the lives of Romanian soldiers as long as he was on mission in Afghanistan. Last year's national parade was also the last for the canine hero. Shortly after, Max was diagnosed with an incurable heart disease. Then, with heart-worm, more precisely a ball of worms in the same area of the body. The only solution was early retirement," the Digi24 TV says.

"Unfortunately, the law has turned Max from a hero to a mere asset of the army. The law says that the shepherd, from the moment of transfer to the reserve, must be placed in the care of another state institution. It did NOT happen like that, probably because the treatment, which costs several hundred lei per month, was considered too expensive. Finally, an animal lover took pity on the hero dog and adopted him. Even if he doesn't know if he can heal him."

"Mircea Dușa ordered, on December 8, 2014, the establishment of a working group to develop a set of normative acts, regarding the use of service animals in the MApN, following the reactions from the media about Max's situation. Max is the first dog in Romania buried with military honors. His resting place is in the "Animal Heaven" cemetery, the lot of "hero dogs".

"The instructions in the field were modified by reformulating a section, thus establishing specific rules regarding the management of animals (horses and service dogs). According to the new provisions, service animals that retain their working capacity and are in good health are kept in the same service category in which they are placed, even if they exceed the age limit provided by the instructions.

"In the event that the animals lose the skills of a service category or no longer meet certain standards required for the category in which they are placed, they will be reclassified in other service categories (corresponding to the current skills - guard, escort, etc.) and will be maintained in activity during their lifetime, benefiting from the related rights", The new law also allows the adoption of the service animal by its trainer." "Max was the first military dog (from Romania) to go on real missions in Afghanistan, the only one to adapt to the climate in theaters of operations and probably the only one who never complained about work," the RADOR agency reported.

"Three years ago, he participated for the first time in the National Day military parade, passing, with the tricolor around his neck, under the Arc de Triomphe, on the armored MRAP of the Romanian Army. He was nicknamed "The Furry Soldier". Now he is sick, he was diagnosed with heartworm disease, because of a mosquito bite he developed heartworms, so... he was scrapped from the unit. According to the same law that maintains it only during the period in which it serves the country, the military dog is a fixed asset, it cannot be adopted.

"During the show, Adrian Ursu also announced that, together with Sonia Simionov and Sorina Hanea, he signed the petition entitled "Law for Max", located on www.petiţieonline.com, for the development of a law to protect horses and dogs service in the service of the country and asking the members of the parliament and the government to start the steps so that these animals can be adopted when they leave the service and to have a financial allowance so that those who adopt them can bear the expenses for the provision of treatment, of food, to be able to keep them in the same conditions for many years after they left the service and, just as importantly, those who were with them in the missions to have the right of preemption."

"Max was adopted by an animal lover and among the first to jump to help him for the treatment were the soldiers from the Association of Military Veterans and Veterans with Disabilities "Saint Great Martyr Dimitrie Izvorâtorul de Mir" (AMVVD). They told EVZ that many of their comrades owe their lives to the German shepherd, the first combat dog of the Romanian Army that contributed to the military missions in Afghanistan. Now, the Ministry of National Defense has announced that it is changing the law to allow the treatment of military dogs," the evz.ro says.

"In the last few days, the mass media presented the difficult situation of Max, the veteran dog of the Romanian Army, who was diagnosed with a serious disease, heart worm, also known as heart worms. It is an extremely dangerous parasite that is transmitted through a mosquito bite, the larvae entering the digestive system and finally locating in the dog's pulmonary artery and heart. If he had been properly immunized, Max would still be healthy today.

"Among the first to understand the situation were the military veterans of the wars in Afghanistan, Iraq or the Western Balkans. “Max is our comrade. He discovered about 30 improvised explosive devices in the missions in Afghanistan. Without him, we probably had 30 more comrades in the line of duty. Or more if we take into account that such devices can also blow up armored vehicles," said Marius Apostol, president of AMVVD, for EVZ.

"The German shepherd was decorated for special merits in the rank of knight."

"General Counselor Tudor-Tim Ionescu has prepared a draft resolution that aims to "honor the memory and activity of all service dogs". He wants to dedicate a monument to the hero dogs of Romania," the DC News reports.

"According to a post on his Facebook page, Tudor-Tim Ionescu's decision comes after he saw the hero dog Max at the December 1st parade: "Today I decided to honor the memory and activity of all service dogs after, in 2012, the canine team formed by the German shepherd #Max and Platoon Adjutant Roșioara Valentin participated in the military parade on the occasion of #1December festivities. It is the first canine team up to that time to participate in a military parade.

That is precisely why I chose to submit today, before the National Day, the draft decision regarding the approval of the creation of a monument dedicated to service dogs named "Max, hero dog". It is to be located in King Mihai I Park of Romania (formerly Herăstrău Park)."

"He was the best and most loyal companion of the Romanian soldiers in Afghanistan. He never complained that it was too hard for him. It performed control, patrol, search and rummage missions. It detects explosives like a radar, always being in the right place," the jurnalul.ro reports.

"This year, the December 1st parade was poorer without Max.... The one who over time saved many lives, is now fighting for his own life. Max, the fighting dog of the Romanian Army - because it is about him - was one of the main stars of the parades under the Arc de Triomphe, alongside the Cavalry Detachment of the Romanian Gendarmerie and the parade of military aviation equipment.
