Chambers Bay, Washington, United States--Patrick Koenig, a wildly enthusiastic professional golf photographer and storyteller, had played golf in the USA, Finland, and Sweden, completing 580 different courses in 365 days, setting the new world record for the Most 18 hole golf courses played in one year, according to the WORLD RECORD ACADEMY.

"For most people who golf, playing 18 holes is plenty of golf for one day. Golf photographer Patrick Koenig is not most people. At the start of this year, he set out to break the world record for most 18-hole golf courses played in one year, a record that previously stood at 449 courses," the USA Today reports.

"The photographer is not done yet with about a month and a half left in 2023. Koenig hopes to hit 500 golf courses by the time the year is over, making his new world record even more unbreakable.

"For Koenig to break the record in just 287 days, he averaged about 11 courses per week and 1.6 courses per day. To hit 500, the photographer will need to have averaged 9.6 courses per week and about 1.4 courses per day."

"In the search of enlightenment, some try Buddhism, others meditation. Patrick Koenig played golf – a lot of golf. Koenig says that if he only played one round of golf per day in 2023, then that was a day off. Not a day off from work, but a day off from golf.

"The 44-year-old American describes himself as “a golf course photographer, explorer and general golf course sicko,” and in his quest to set a new Guinness World Record last year, he played the game at a relentless pace, driving almost 35,000 miles through 41 states," the CNN reports.

"By the time he finished his golfing trek, Koenig had played in the USA, Finland, and Sweden, completing 580 different courses in 365 days. As well as playing an awful lot of golf, the experience has changed Koenig’s perspective on the world."

"Patrick Koenig has an exceptionally understanding girlfriend. He also has an insatiable appetite for golf, which is why he spent upwards of $150,000 to feed his golf obsession. His dedication is such that he played 18 holes on Christmas Day and another 36 on his girlfriend’s birthday," the Today's Golfer says.

"That he was able to get away with it – with his relationship still intact – owes a lot to his incredible quest to play the most 18-hole golf courses in 365 days. The previous record, set by Cathie and Jonathan Weaver, stood at 449, but Koenig knew he could beat it, and told us so in March last year.

"“I loved every second of it,” he says now. “I don’t think I could have set a better goal in my entire life. It was perfect for me. There was nothing that was boring or repetitive about it, even though it was, by definition, the same thing 580 times. Every day was a different adventure."

"For The RGV Tour 2.0, Koenig set a target of playing 500 courses across a 365-day period in 2023 and has been busily ticking off layouts all over America – from PGA West, to Thunderbird Country Club, from the Dye Valley course TPC Sawgrass to Tobacco Road.

"“This scene will be one of the defining moments of my life in golf. Thank you to everyone who supported my dream and was part of this world record. “We have accomplished what no other golfer has done before. 450 courses in 287 days. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Tomorrow… more golf.”
