Paris, France--Novak Djokovic, a Serbian professional tennis player, has been ranked No. 1 for a record total of 428 weeks in a record 13 different years by the ATP, and finished as the year-end No. 1 a record eight times; overall, he has won 99 singles titles, including a record 72 Big Titles: 24 majors, a record 40 Masters, a record seven year-end championships, and an Olympic gold medal, thus setting the world record for being the Greatest Men's Tennis Player of All Time, according to the WORLD RECORD ACADEMY.
"For all of his Grand Slam championships and other titles, for all of his time at No. 1, Novak Djokovic really, really wanted an Olympic gold medal for Serbia, the last significant accomplishment missing from his glittering resume. He finally got one at age 37 on Sunday, beating Carlos Alcaraz 7-6 (3), 7-6 (2) in an enthralling and evenly matched men’s tennis singles final at the 2024 Games," the AP reports.
“When I take everything into consideration, this probably is the biggest sporting success I ever had in my career,” said Djokovic, who didn’t drop a set in Paris and is the oldest man to win the Summer Games tennis title since 1908. “This kind of supersedes everything that I imagined, that I hoped that I could experience, that I could feel.”
"With margins so thin that any mistake felt as if it could tilt things, Djokovic was at his best when the stakes were highest, dominating each of the two tiebreakers against Alcaraz, who beat him in the Wimbledon final three weeks ago."
Novak Djokovic is a Serbian professional tennis player who was ranked world No. 1 in men's singles tennis by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP).

"Novak Djokovic, born 22 May 1987) is a Serbian professional tennis player. Djokovic has been ranked No. 1 for a record total of 428 weeks in a record 13 different years by the ATP, and finished as the year-end No. 1 a record eight times.
"Djokovic has won a record 24 Grand Slam men's singles titles, including a record ten Australian Open titles. Overall, he has won 99 singles titles, including a record 72 Big Titles: 24 majors, a record 40 Masters, a record seven year-end championships, and an Olympic gold medal.
"Djokovic is the only man in tennis history to be the reigning champion of all four majors at once across three different surfaces. In singles, he is the only man to achieve a triple Career Grand Slam, and the only player to complete a Career Golden Masters, a feat he has achieved twice. Djokovic is one of two men to complete the Career Super Slam[a], and is the only player to achieve a career sweep of the Big Titles[b] in singles." (Wikipedia)
"Novak Djokovic beat Carlos Alcaraz in thrilling fashion to secure a long-awaited Olympic title and complete the career 'Golden Slam'. Djokovic, who has won a men's record 24 majors and swept up every title there is in tennis, finally clinched Olympic gold at his fifth Games," the
BBC reports.
"The Serb, 37, put in his best performance of the year to beat French Open and Wimbledon champion Alcaraz 7-6 (7-3) 7-6 (7-2) in front of a packed crowd in Paris. He sealed the title with a forehand winner, then turned towards his box - arms outstretched in disbelief - before throwing his racquet to the floor after a draining match which lasted just under three hours.
"After hugging Spain's Alcaraz, Djokovic immediately burst into tears and fell to his knees in the middle of the court. He then unfurled a Serbian flag and clambered into the stands to celebrate with his family and support team."
"At 37 and at his fifth Olympics, Djokovic captured the one title that had so far evaded him in a bid to complete the career golden slam," The Independent says.
"Two months after tearing his meniscus in his right knee and appearing to be a doubt for the Games when he underwent surgery, Djokovic returned to the same court on Philippe-Chatrier to record one of the greatest victories of his career against his young rival, delivering a gold medal for Serbia that he ranked above his record 24 grand slam titles as his “biggest sporting achievement”.
"In doing so, he managed to suppress Alcaraz just as the Spaniard appeared to be a level above what Djokovic was able to produce at this stage of his career."
"Novak Djokovic, the all-time leader in men’s Grand Slam singles titles, with 24, won his first Olympic gold medal on Sunday at Roland Garros, defeating Carlos Alcaraz of Spain 7-6 (3), 7-6 (2) in the high-level final befitting perhaps the greatest tennis player of all-time, and his possible successor in that realm," the TIME magazine reports.
"The match was grinding and grueling, with no service breaks in the regular run of play; neither player was much interested in capitulating to the others. The Serbian star now joins the Golden Slam club: players who have won all four major tournaments—the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, and U.S. Open—and an Olympics gold. He joins Steffi Graf, Andre Agassi, Rafael Nadal, and Serena Williams.
"Djokovic has accomplished everything imaginable in tennis. But the Olympics will do that to you. Representing your country will do that to you. Djokovic made no secret of his desire for an Olympic gold, as a career capstone. He now has it."
"An emotional Novak Djokovic produced a stunning display to defeat rival Carlos Alcaraz 7-6 (7-3) 7-6 (7-2) in the match of the year to win his first Olympic gold medal and complete a career Golden Slam. Djokovic's impressive career already featured a men's-record 24 Grand Slam titles and the most weeks spent at No 1 in the rankings by any man or woman," the Sky Sports says.
""I'm overwhelmed with everything I'm feeling right now. Feeling different emotions. Too proud. Too happy. Thrilled with the possibility to win a gold for the first time in my career for my country. Arguably the biggest success I had," said Djokovic.

"I won probably everything there is to win in my individual career. Winning Davis Cup and particularly a golden medal at the age 37 for Serbia is unprecedented. I'm just starting my celebration. I can't wait for what's coming up in the next 48 hours."
"Having turned pro in 2003, Djokovic took five years to win a Grand Slam trophy at the Australian Open. Djoker, as he’s lovingly called, now has 24 Grand Slam titles, seven ATP Finals crowns and has 40 ATP Masters 1000 crowns to his name -- a record -- apart from the 90-odd tour title wins," the
Paris 2024 Olympics says.
"No other men's singles player in the history of tennis has won more Grand Slam titles than Novak Djokovic. He also holds the record for most men's singles Grand Slam matches won, surpassing Federer's tally of 369 at the French Open 2024.
"Novak Djokovic has also won the Australian Open a record 10 times and is the only men's tennis player in the Open era to have achieved a double Career Grand Slam - winning each of the four majors at least twice. In 2018, the Serb also completed a Career Golden Masters by winning all the nine ATP World Tour Masters 1000 events with his win at the Cincinnati Masters."
