Amagasaki, Hyogo, Japan--The TOKUI Fast Accurate Synchronized Motion Testing Robot (TOKUFASTbot), built by a team of engineers from Mitsubishi Electric (TOKYO: 6503), can perform a 90° rotation time of 0.009 second thanks to its rotation mechanism; the robot's time of 0.305 second to solve a puzzle cube sets the world record for being the Fastest robot to solve a puzzle cube, according to the WORLD RECORD ACADEMY.

"Mitsubishi Electric Corporation (TOKYO: 6503) announced that it has been awarded the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title for the fastest robot to solve a puzzle cube using a robot equipped with high-speed, high-precision factory automation (FA) equipment and control technology," Mitsubishi Electric says.

"The robot's time of 0.305 second beat the previous record of 0.38 second, for which Mitsubishi Electric received a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS certificate."

"The TOKUI Fast Accurate Synchronized motion Testing Robot (TOKUFASTbot) named by its engineer can perform a 90° rotation time of 0.009 second thanks to its rotation mechanism, which is built with Mitsubishi Electric's compact, high-power, signal-responsive servomotors and a color-recognition algorithm developed with proprietary AI technology.

"In addition, the servomotors, programmable controller, industrial PC, touch panel display and cameras are all designed to achieve high-speed signal connection and inter-device control."

"Yuji Yoshimura, Senior General Manager, Component Production Engineering Center, Mitsubishi Electric said: "Since establishing our Component Production Engineering Center in 2016, we have been developing and manufacturing high-tech motors, power semiconductors and related products.

"To demonstrate our technical capabilities in achieving high-speed, high-precision windings, which are key to increasing the productivity and efficiency of motors used in many of our products, our young engineers voluntarily worked to set the world record, resulting in a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title, which has motivated our engineers to further develop their technical skills.

"We will continue to take on exciting challenges using the technology we have cultivated in motor development to support global manufacturing."

"The fastest robot to solve a puzzle cube is 0.305 seconds and was built by Component Production Engineering Center, Mitsubishi Electric Corporation (Japan) in Amagasaki, Hyogo, Japan on 21 May 2024,"  the Guinness World Records says.

"They aimed to showcase the exceptional performance and technical capabilities of their in-house FA technology by challenging this Guinness World Records title."

"Built by a team of engineers from Mitsubishi Electric, the TOKUI Fast Accurate Synchronized Motion Testing Robot (TOKUFASTbot) edged the previous record—set by a robot developed by MIT students in 2018—by 0.075 seconds," the Smithsonian Magazine says.

“I checked the videos of the previous record holder, and I felt that the motor we have is better than theirs,” Tokui, an engineer at Mitsubishi and the team’s lead, tells Guinness World Records’ Masakazu Senda. “So I was confident that we can beat them with speed.”

"Since its invention in 1974, the Rubik’s Cube has exploded in popularity, eventually becoming the most popular puzzle toy in the world. At its core, the puzzle is simple: Each of the cube’s six faces has nine colored squares, and the solver must rotate the toy in a way that gets every side to have a uniform color. But even on the standard three-by-three cube, the colors can be arranged in more than 43 quintillion different ways."

"Well, a robot designed in Japan has just broken the World Record by completing the 3D puzzle in just 0.3 seconds - around the same amount of time it takes to blink.

"The robot was so speedy, it was more than 10 times faster than the human record! The human record of 3.13 seconds was set in June last year at a Rubik’s Cube speed solving event in California."

"A robot in Japan has set a new world record for solving a Rubik’s Cube in the fastest time. Guinness World Records recognised a time of 0.305 seconds for the Mitsubishi Electric machine, breaking the previous record by 0.075 seconds," The Independent says.

"The robot’s time was more than 10 times faster than the best ever human, which was set in June last year at a Rubik’s Cube speed solving event in California. Korean-American Max Park took just 3.13 seconds to solve the 3x3x3 rotating puzzle cube – more than a third of a second faster than the next fastest human.

"The time of 0.305 seconds achieved by the robot is roughly the same amount of time that it takes for a human to blink."
