"Young said that she began waterskiing after her family bought a cabin in Bear Lake in the 1960s. “After we had the cabin we built a ski float and we just started skiing,” said Young. She began at the age of 30 and hasn’t stopped since, the KSL News Radio says.

"Young said she loves the water. “There’s something awfully calming about being in the water.” However, waterskiing provides the opposite feeling. “When you’re out, you know, and you’re feeling the air,” Young added.

"Her family is also involved in the sport. She said they ski in the cold waters of Bear Lake and the warmer waters of Lake Powell. She’d been snow skiing since she was six years old. According to Young, her experience on Ecker Hill in Parley’s Canyon helped her waterski."

"An adventure-loving elderly woman from Salt Lake City, Utah, USA, is making a big splash! At the age of 92, Dwan Jacobsen Young is officially the world’s oldest waterskier (female)," the Guinness World Records says.

"Dwan has been water skiing since 1961 when she was 29 years old. After purchasing a summer cabin on Bear Lake, located between Utah and Idaho, Dwan noticed that waterskiing was very popular in the area. Wanting to indulge in the fun, she decided to try her hand at the sport."

Advice from the world’s oldest female waterskier

"According to Young, waterskiing has taught her not to give up. “Just keep trying and it takes effort and it takes consistency … and patience,” said Young, the KSL News Radio says.

"She also shared her tips for longevity, saying to keep moving, eating healthy, and taking care of yourself. The world record holder said that she still plays tennis. Additionally, she’s been doing water aerobics during the winter months.

“I am just grateful … to have good health and to have a wonderful supportive family that encourages me,” said Young.

"Dwan Jacobsen was born in Salt Lake City, Utah. She graduated from South High School (Salt Lake City) in 1948 and later graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelor of Education. She married Thomas Young, Jr. and they are the parents of five children.

"Young accompanied her husband to Canada, where he served as president of the church's Canada Calgary Mission. In 1990, Young was awarded the Silver Buffalo Award from the Boy Scouts of America for her work to incorporate Cub Scouting into the LDS Church's Primary program. Dwan is a board member and matriarch of Young Electric Sign Company (YESCO).

"In 2023, Young was inducted into the Guinness World Records as the oldest female water skier."  (Wikipedia)

"At 92 years young, Dwan Jacobsen Young has set a new world record as the oldest female water skier. Officially recognized by Guinness World Records, Young set the record in August 2023," the Yahoo News says.

"Young told ABC4’s Good Things Utah she has been water skiing since she was 30 years old in the 1960s. Her family had bought a cabin at Bear Lake and then built a ski float for water skiing. She said it took a while to learn but her experience on Utah’s slopes helped her get the hang of the sport.

"As she got older, she never put it down. She said she found water skiing to be exhilarating and that there was “just something” about feeling the water and the air as it goes by. She continued to water ski even at the loving protest of her late husband."

"A Utah woman who has been water skiing since 1961 was officially dubbed the world's oldest female water skier at age 92," the UPI says.

"Dwan Jacobsen Young of Fish Haven said she started water skiing on Lake Bear when she was 29 years old, and now she is joined on her outings by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

"Young said she didn't know her family had applied for the Guinness World Records title on her behalf. They surprised her with the news at a family Christmas party."

"Her friend's wakes aren't the only wake she's tearing up, Dwan Young has set the Guinness World Record for oldest water skier at 92. It's been a week where old dudes are realizing it's time to make an exit from the game they love and retiring at old age of 72, meanwhile this 92 year old great-grandma is still at the pinnacle of the water skiing game and showing no signs of slowing down," the Bartool Sports says.

"This is an incredible accomplishment. My grandpa is 92 and sitting in a chair is a chore, simply existing hurts his bones. After a walk to the mail box he's surpassed his physical exertion limit for the day, while Dwan is out here participating in extreme water sports.

"An interesting fact is the oldest male water skier is also 92. There must be a sweet spot at 92 where your bones don't turn to dust the second you hit a wave."

"After 92 years, most people would be expected to be sat in a comfy armchair wasting the day away, but not Dwan Jacobsen Young. The pensioner, from Salt Lake City in Utah, is an adrenaline junky who prefers to make a big splash and is currently the world's oldest female water-skier," The Mirror US says.

"Her interest in the sport peaked when one summer she decided to buy a summer cabin on Bear Lake, between her home state and Idaho. When she was there she noticed how popular water-skiing was in the area and wanted to indulge in some water-based fun for herself. Before she knew it, she was hooked, the Guinness World Records said.

"Now, every summer Dwan and her family head to the lakes and spend as much time as they can there. And, you guessed it they head out waterskiing depending on the weather conditions. "I always get butterflies before I get in the water,” she said. The 92-year-old first learned to ski by using two skis and after a lot of learning - and plenty of failures - she was able to get up on a slalom.
