World's Longest Line of Batteries, world record in Edison, New Jersey

Edison, New Jersey, United States--The organization Recycle My Battery, a non-profit organization dedicated to addressing the critical issue of battery waste and promoting responsible battery disposal and recycling, founded by Edison native Sri Nihal Tammana and its volunteers placed 31,204 batteries in a single line, setting the new world record for the World's Longest Line of Batteries, according to the WORLD RECORD ACADEMY.

"The organization Recycle My Battery recently broke a Guinness World Record for the Longest Line of Batteries at Woodbrook Elementary School, according to a press release. More than 100 young participants worked to break the world record at this local elementary school," the TAPintoEdison.com says.

"According to the press release, Recycle My Battery and its volunteers placed 31,204 batteries in a single line. The previous record stood at 1,380 batteries. Officials from the Guinness Book of World Records were on-site to officiate the new world record."

"Recycle My Battery was founded by Edison native Sri Nihal Tammana in 2019, then at the age of 10. Last year, Sri and a friend witnessed a Guinness World Record attempt for the longest line of eyeglasses. This gave Sri the idea to set a similar world record using collected batteries, according to his email.

“It’s due to the chemicals and electrodes that causes dead batteries to explode in the trash and in our landfills,” Tammana says of the flames that grabbed his attention. “These explosions cause fires that devastate everything in their path. If we don’t take action now, Mother Earth could become a burning planet. So never, and I mean never, throw a battery into the trash.”

"Tammana wants everyone to recycle batteries by dropping them off at designated community sites or by signing up on his website to receive recycling bins for homes and schools. The bins are free, thanks to a grant. Students in 14 states, as well as India, Ireland, the United Arab Emirates and Switzerland, participate in Recycle My Battery programs, but the nonprofit’s roots are in New Jersey."
