Dallas, Texas, United States--El Rio Grande Latin Market, a grocery store in Dallas, Texas, had 260,292 avocados on display which weighed 86,764 pounds, thus setting the new world record for the World’s Largest Avocado Display, according to the WORLD RECORD ACADEMY.

"A Dallas market is celebrating after setting a Guinness World Record for the largest fruit display after gathering nearly 87,000 pounds of avocados. According to the market, the display took 7 hours to set up," the USA Today says.

"El Rio Grande Latin Market broke the record after setting up an avocado display that weighed in at a whopping 86,764 pounds. The market teased the record-breaking news leading up to the announcement and later posted a time-lapse video of workers setting up the display, located at 3035 Buckner Blvd. in Dallas.


"“Everything Grande in Texas isn't just about avocados," Gladys Marquez of El Rio Grande said in the release. "It's about bringing our community together. In addition to celebrating the avocado, we'll also be raising awareness about the importance of access to nutritious foods."

"The largest fruit display weighs 39,355.5 kg (86,764 lb), and was achieved by El Rio Grande Latin Market (USA) in Dallas, Texas, USA, on 3 May 2024," the Guinness World Records says.

"The display of 301,000 avocados was created to celebrate the Mexican-American cultural holiday Cinco de Mayo, which takes place 5 May every year."

In addition to celebrating the avocado, we'll also be raising awareness about the importance of access to nutritious foods,” El Rio marketing director Gladys Marquez said in the news release," the Dallas Observer says.


“We recognize that access to fresh, healthy food is a challenge for many people in our community. Throughout this campaign, we are doing more than breaking records – we're supporting our local economy and strengthening our community.”

"El Rio Grande Market says they started working on the idea for the display back in January. Students at Truitt Elementary created artwork for the celebration. Bryan Adams folklorico and mariachi teams and the Skyline High marching band performed at the event as well. The display was part of a massive event to celebrate Cinco de Mayo."
