"Our Winter Co-Ed softball tournament is our oldest and largest fundraiser. What started out, in 1999, as a fun way to raise money for the Central Vermont Co-Ed softball league, has now turned into one of the largest, non-professional sports gatherings in New England," the official website says.

"This tournament routinely brings in 60-80 teams from all over New England and accommodates 3,000 - 6,000 players and spectators over the three-day event.

"Some people just come to watch and take in the fair like atmosphere, others come for a chance to be crowned the winner of "The Worlds Largest Snow Softball Tournament", but there is no doubt that everyone is there to support the children of Vermont who are battling cancer."

 "The largest snow softball tournament is the Freezing Fun For Families Winter CO-ED Softball Tournament with 795 players from 61 teams, at Barre Town Recreation field, Barre, Vermont, United States, from 6-8 March 2009.



"The tournament format was double elimination (two losses and you are out of the tournament) and the winners were Shaker Valley Auto who defeated Yipes Stripes in two consecutive games to take the title. Former NFL wide receiver David Ball attended the event as a witness but did not participate," the Vercalendario says.

"Freezing Fun For Families is a Vermont based non-profit that offers financial support to Vermont families with a child battling cancer," the official website says.

"Through grants, community funding, donations and world-renowned fundraisers such as The Worlds Largest Snow Softball Tournament and our annual golf tournament; Freezing Fun For Families has been able to help multiple Vermont families through some of their most trying times.

"Since 2000, Freezing Fun For Families has provided financial assistance to 32 Vermont families through our World's Largest Snow Softball fundraiser, provided financial support to an additional 15 families through our Konner Drury Fund, purchased a Vermont family a new home (with the help of Fecteau Homes), and furnished a comfort room at the Central Vermont Medical Centers cancer treatment facility. In all totaling nearly $500,000.00 for Vermont families with children battling cancer."
