"The Apron Museum in Iuka, Mississippi, is the only museum in the United States dedicated to aprons and the stories they tell. Iuka native Carolyn Terry founded the museum after attending estate sales and auctions in order to buy books. Terry was instead tempted by the fabric of the aprons, and would purchase bundles of aprons, which spurred her scholarly interest in the subject. (Wikipedia)
"The museum showcases thousands of aprons dating as far back as to the American Civil War, as well as more modern pop-culture tribute aprons with Star Wars and Family Guy themes, and an apron with a napkin signed by Tom Cruise stapled onto it. The aprons are organized by U.S. state, with aprons from Canada and Australia also on display.
"The bulk of the collection is from the 1950s, when women donned stylish elaborate hostess aprons for Bridge and garden parties, and men wore chef-style aprons for backyard barbecuing. Construction materials include checkered cotton gingham, handkerchiefs, and recycled feed and flour sacks adorned with appliquéd bows, rickrack, ruffles and oversized pockets."
"Small town Mississippi is home to some quirky sites. For instance, it’s in a small town that you’ll find The Apron Museum. As the name implies, it’s a museum dedicated to aprons. But what the moniker doesn’t tell you is that it’s the world’s largest apron museum," the Only In Your State says.
"Fittingly dubbed The Apron Museum, the one-room museum is filled with aprons that span the ages and the globe. According to the owner, it’s the “only museum dedicated to aprons and the stories they tell.”
"Since opening in 2006, the museum has received countless donations from people all around the world. Today, the museum houses roughly 3,500 aprons, making it the country’s largest public display of aprons. Both expansive and varied, the collection includes aprons in just about every color, pattern, and material imaginable. The aprons don’t just differ in appearance, though."
"Aprons have been made and worn for centuries. The appreciation of the art, fashion and history of aprons began a few years ago and continues with magazine articles, exhibits, books, collectors and the new Apron Museum in Iuka, Mississippi," the Mississippi Hills says.
"The Apron Museum is the only museum in the country dedicated to aprons and the stories they tell."
"When you first walk in, the museum side is to the right. Carolyn has just about every kind of apron imaginable on display. There are gorgeous crocheted aprons, "naughty" and peek-a-boo aprons, dainty 1950's & 60's hostess aprons, chicken scratch (gingham with embroidery) aprons and many, many more," The Piney Woods Tatter says.
"I truly wish we'd had more time to visit with Carolyn and comb through her collection. Jocelin and I were in heaven while Jim was the epitome of a Southern gentleman, patiently waiting for us to sift through treasures.
"To the left is the antique store and "for sale" apron section. There is a varied selection of vintage goodies one could purchase to embelish an apron or other fiber art piece."
"The Apron Museum is dedicated to exploring the history and artistry of aprons and stands as the only museum in the country focused on aprons and the stories they tell," the Visit Mississippi says.
"Call before visiting to make sure the museum is open.

"What started as routine trips to estate sales to buy books morphed into a hobby for Carolyn Terry of Iuka. Before she knew it, she had become the proud owner of the country’s only apron museum," the Mississippi Today says.
"Nestled just between the town’s two highest church steeples, The Apron Museum is home to about 3,500 aprons that span the ages and the globe. At the museum, aprons are organized by state. The collection also includes aprons from Canada and Australia, as well as from Civil War times and the Leave It to Beaver era, as Terry puts it.
"The museum, which has been featured by Ripley’s Believe It or Not, has not only grabbed the attention of visitors but also caught the interest of donors. Since opening, Terry has received handwritten letters enclosed with aprons being donated to the museum."
