"Beast, operating since 14 April 1979 at Paramount's Kings Island in Ohio, USA, is the longest traditional wooden laminated track roller coaster at 2,286 m (7,400 ft). Rides last 3 min 40 sec and reach a top speed of 104 km/h (65 mph)," the Guinness World Records says.

"The Beast was designed and constructed in-house at Kings Island for approximately $3.5 million, and according to them it would cost over $20 million if it were to be built today.

"They constructed The Beast in a wooded area in a corner of the park featuring naturally occurring cliffs, hills and ravines, choosing to incorporate the landscape into the design rather than levelling it, thus saving money. They worked around the topography by going underground, resulting in the creation of three pitch-black tunnels," the Guinness World Records says.

"Kings Island is a 364-acre (147 ha) amusement park located 24 miles (39 km) northeast of Cincinnati in Mason, Ohio, United States. Owned and operated by Six Flags Entertainment Corporation, the park was built by Taft Broadcasting and opened in 1972.

"It was part of a larger effort to move and expand Coney Island, a popular resort destination along the banks of the Ohio River that was prone to frequent flooding. After more than $300 million in capital investments over the years, the park has grown to feature over a hundred attractions including fifteen roller coasters and a 33-acre (13 ha) water park.

"Kings Island is divided into nine themed sections and operates seasonally from early spring through Labor Day in the fall, followed by two additional holiday-themed events known as Halloween Haunt and Winterfest. Kings Island had an estimated 3.18 million guests in 2021, ranking third in attendance among seasonal amusement parks in North America behind sister parks Canada's Wonderland and Cedar Point."  (Wikipedia)

"The Beast is a wooden roller coaster located at Kings Island amusement park in Mason, Ohio, United States. Designed and manufactured in-house for approximately $3 million, the ride opened in 1979 as the tallest, fastest, and longest wooden roller coaster in the world.

"Decades later, it is still the longest, spanning 7,361 feet (2,244 m) across 35 acres (14 ha) of hilly terrain. Two lift hills contribute to the ride's duration of more than four minutes, which also ranks as one of the longest among roller coasters. A refurbishment in 2022 increased the angle of the first drop and lengthened the ride by 2 feet (0.61 m)." (

"The Beast's final design featured two vertical drops of 135 and 141 feet (41 and 43 m), and it incorporated an overall elevation change of 201 feet (61 m). Its three underground tunnels were designed by Jim Kiosky, with one at the base of the first drop and two more approximately a third of the way into the track layout.

"The trains were manufactured by Philadelphia Toboggan Coasters, Allen's employer, who also implemented their "buzz bar" restraints. An early iteration of the train's design was based on the traditional mine car concept, which employed headlamps at the front of each train. Late changes scrapped the mine car theme in favor of a flame-colored paint scheme, and a sculpted logo was attached at the front in place of the headlamps." (Wikipedia)

"The Beast had been a length of 7,359 feet (or 2,243 meters). But when it opens in May, riders will enjoy those 2 extra feet – for a new official length of 7,361 feet – because of “off season re tracking and re profiling work,” the release said," the CNN reports.

"Obviously, those 2 extra feet (.6 meters) are going to fly by pretty darn fast. Perhaps more important and more noticeable to the thrill-seekers on the ride will be a steeper first drop.

"Kings Island said it “has been reprofiled from 45 degrees to 53 degrees so that it can come into the tunnel lower and deliver a buttery-smooth transition through the first tunnel and onto the second drop.”
