Strawberry Point, Iowa, United States--Strawberry Point, Iowa is billed as “The Sweetest Place to Grow”; they have a roadside attraction dedicated to their sweet namesake that grows far beyond normal size: a fifteen-foot tall, twelve-foot wide fiberglass strawberry that was designed by a local ad agency in the late 1960s to put this Clayton County locale on the map and sets the world record for being the World’s Largest Strawberry Sculpture, according to the WORLD RECORD ACADEMY.
"Strawberry Point, Iowa is billed as “The Sweetest Place to Grow” so it’s only fitting that they have a roadside attraction dedicated to their sweet namesake that grows far beyond normal size: the world’s largest strawberry," the Silly America says.
"The biggest strawberry in the world is a fifteen-foot tall, twelve-foot wide fiberglass beauty that is red, plump, and probably delicious. It sits high in the sky on a post marked “Strawberry Point” for visitors to the small Iowa town to admire.
"This Iowa roadside attraction was designed by a local ad agency in the late 1960s to put this Clayton County locale on the map. And that they did, some 60 years later you can still find this big fruit hoisted on a pole in front of the town’s City Hall."
"One of the quirkiest roadside attractions in Iowa can be found in the aptly named Strawberry Point. Head to this tiny town to discover the world's largest strawberry," the Only In Your State says.
"You'll know you've found the right spot when you head toward City Hall. There, an enormous 15 foot tall fiberglass fruit is waiting for you!
"This roadside landmark was created by a marketing agency in the 1960s to help promote Strawberry Point as a place to visit in Clayton County. It's certainly worked! People come from all over to see the largest strawberry in the world that's made its home in a tiny Iowa town."
"Strawberry Point, Iowa is probably the technical champion of the World's Largest Strawberry title (if we ignore water towers and buildings painted red with seeds)," the Roadside America says.
"The 15-ft. tall painted sculpture is on a post in front of City Hall. It's fiberglass, designed by a local ad agency, and was dedicated in the late 1960s."
"Strawberry Point is a city in Clayton County, Iowa, United States. The population was 1,155 at the time of the 2020 United States Census, down from 1,386 in 2000 census.
"Strawberry Point is home to the world's largest strawberry (a 15-foot fiberglass statue), and the Franklin Hotel, which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999. Backbone State Park, Iowa's oldest state park, is located a few miles from the town." (Wikipedia)
"The World's Largest Strawberry was the brainchild of the Strawberry Point Jaycees, who sought to bring attention to their town. Several ideas were brainstormed with the community rallying around a giant sculpture of their namesake," The Ledger says..
"Residents raised $6,500 for the strawberry, hiring the Frank Hardie Advertising Agency in Dubuque to bring the vision to life. The berry was created by the neon and signs division of Hardie's company and manufactured in California.
"The strawberry was shipped in four pieces to Dubuque, where Hardie employees cemented it together. The finished product rolled into Strawberry Point on a flatbed truck. It was erected on June 20, 1967."
"The World’s Largest Strawberry is located in Strawberry Point, Iowa," the IOWA PBS says.
"This 15-foot tall fiberglass sculpture is located in front of City Hall and was dedicated in the late 1960s. In 2003, it became rivaled with a building painted to look like a strawberry in North Carolina, built by a business owner named Lee Berry.
"However, Strawberry Point still claims to hold the title, as the building in North Carolina is not shaped like a strawberry but only painted like one."
"Sweet, succulent strawberry! That might just be what you exclaim when you visit the world’s LARGEST strawberry in Strawberry Point," the Travel Iowa says.
"This 15-foot tall fiberglass sculpture was designed by a local ad agency and dedicated in the late 1960s."
"It's very rare that you come across the actual "World's Largest" anything. Leave it to a small town in Iowa to have the "World's Largest" of something on a stick! Yonder Strawberry is located atop a pole outside the Strawberry Point Post Office and is quite the sight. Apparently the town spent a good amount restoring this juicy beast after it had been left in near disrepair since donning it's pole since the 60's.It's a quick stop for pictures and a great story about a fruit fit for a salad on Olympus!"
