Dover, Delaware, United States--Hanging out in front of the Dover Motor Speedway, in Dover, Delaware, United States, Miles the Monster has been the mascot of Dover Motor Speedway since 2000; the 46-foot-tall, 40,000-pound monument is shown bursting triumphantly out of the ground of Victory Plaza, holding a full-sized car in its raised fist; it sets the world record for being the World’s Largest Monster Statue, according to the WORLD RECORD ACADEMY.
"In fact, the largest, fiercest monster in Delaware isn’t hiding at all! He’s hanging out in front of the Dover Motor Speedway, and he’d actually really like it if you came to visit. Dover Motor Speedway is more than just a car track. The track hosts live Standardbred harness racing, and the nearby Woodlands is home to Firefly Music Festival. Bally's also operates a casino resort adjacent to the property," the Only In Your State says.
"The track has been nicknamed the "Monster Mile" for decades, and in 2000, adopted "Miles the Monster" as their mascot. The massive monster statue was built to welcome guests to Dover Motor Speedway in 2008. The official nickname for the monument is the Monster Monument at Victory Plaza.
"Miles is the largest fiberglass monster in the world. You really have to see him up close to appreciate how massive he is despite being hollow inside! The 46-foot-tall monster doesn't have any legs because the sculptors ran out of room. Even though he's just half a monster, he weighs more than 20 tons. To put that in perspective, that's more than three full sized T-Rexes!"
"The Dover Motor Speedway, nicknamed “The Monster Mile,” was constructed in 1969 by the Melvin L. Joseph Construction Company, Inc., and has hosted NASCAR, USAC, and IndyCar races. From 2007 through 2009 the speedway received an upgrade — “The Monster Makeover” — that expanded the track’s facilities. In 2008, during the makeover, a 46-foot fiberglass creature was built outside the racetrack, and named Miles the Monster," the Atlas Obscura says.
"Miles the Monster has been the mascot of Dover Motor Speedway since 2000. His likeness can be found on the winner’s trophy, tickets to the races, t-shirts, action figures, and other memorabilia. His monumental manifestation is located at the track’s Victory Plaza, behind the grandstand of the front stretch, bursting out of a circular base. He appears angry, with red eyes, and clutching a racecar in his rocky right hand. His circular base contains plaques commemorating every Dover NASCAR winner since 1969 and has room for every winner until the year 2035.
"The monster can be reached by car and is located at the Dover International Speedway on North Dupont Highway. Make a left at the main entrance, then go to the right, and drive around the stadium to the back side. The monster is under 24 hour surveillance, keeping him out of trouble."

"The Monster Monument, at 46 feet tall, is almost 10 feet taller than the other famous “monster” in the sports world, the 37-foot, 2-inch “Green Monster” in left field of Boston’s Fenway Park.
"The world’s largest fiberglass structure outside a sports stadium, the Monument overlooks all the fun and excitement in Dover’s Fan Zone during its NASCAR weekends and other track events," the
Dover Motor Speedway says.
"Plaques at the base of the Monument honor all of Dover’s race winners with marquee plaques dedicated to legendary drivers recognized for their special accomplishments earned on the World’s Fastest One-Mile Oval. To date, seven-time Dover champions Bobby Allison and Richard Petty and five-time Dover winners Jeff Gordon and David Pearson are honored with marquee plaques."
"Dover Motor Speedway (formerly Dover Downs International Speedway and later Dover International Speedway) is a race track in Dover, Delaware. The track has hosted at least one NASCAR Cup Series race each year since 1969, including two per year from 1971 to 2020. In addition to NASCAR, the track also hosted USAC[5] and the Indy Racing League. The track features one layout, a 1.000 mi (1.609 km) concrete oval, with 24° banking in the turns and 9° banking on the straights. The speedway is owned and operated by Speedway Motorsports.
"The track, nicknamed "The Monster Mile", was built in 1969 by Melvin Joseph of Melvin L. Joseph Construction Company, Inc., with an asphalt surface, but was replaced with concrete in 1995. Six years later, in 2001, the track had 135,000 seats, the largest sports venue in the mid-Atlantic region. In 2002, the name changed to Dover International Speedway from Dover Downs International Speedway after Dover Downs Gaming and Entertainment split, making Dover Motorsports. From 2007 to 2009, the speedway worked on an improvement project called "The Monster Makeover," which expanded facilities at the track and beautified the track. On Nov. 8, 2021, it was announced that Dover Motorsports Inc. was purchased by Speedway Motorsports Inc.
"The speedway's mascot is called "Miles the Monster," which is a monster spawned from the track's nickname, "The Monster Mile." The monster is featured on the winner's trophy, the track's tickets, memorabilia, website, and the 46-foot (14 m) Monster Monument. A previous nickname that the track had was "White Lightning," used in the initial years after the track surface changed from asphalt to concrete." (Wikipedia)
"He’s iconic around the world! Dover’s Miles The Monster turns green for the Eagles. Dover Motor Speedway is celebrating the Birds reaching the big game by turning their world renowned mascot green for the weekend!" the WJBR.com says.
"“Miles the Monster seems cut from the same angular genetic branch as The Thing and The Hulk. His glowing red eyes — a trait shared by other monsters — can be seen from Hwy 1, a half-mile away. The Dover monster is watched by 24-hour security, and protected behind a fence on the days when no one’s around. But this is more out of fear that someone might steal one of the granite plaques, rather than cause any harm to Miles” according to Roadside America.
"Miles circular base contains plaques commemorating every Dover NASCAR winner since 1969 and has room for every winner until the year 2035."
"One of the biggest and baddest monuments in sports just turned 15! The menacing, close to 50-foot-tall Monster Monument at Dover Motor Speedway just celebrated its 15th anniversary last week right outside the Monster Mile," the 93.3 WMMR says.
"Miles the Monster has been Dover Motor Speedway’s mascot since 2000. You can find his likeness on everything from hats & t-shirts to ticket stubs and tv commercials, and of course the super cool Trophy each winner gets. The track underwent a makeover in 2007 and part of it was the addition of the Monster Monument in 2008.
"Made of fiberglass, the monument is close to 5 stories tall and holds an actual NASCAR stock car in its big paw. His circular base contains plaques commemorating every Dover NASCAR winner since 1969 and has room for every winner until the year 2035!"
"Delaware’s Quaint Villages is home to Dover Motor Speedway, a motorsports destination that has hosted Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series races each year since 1969. The world’s fastest concrete oval has an international reputation as being hard on both drivers and equipment, earning it the nickname the “Monster Mile.” Stop by this storied Speedway to add a taste of adventure to your Kent County visit.Though Miles the Monster is an intimidating sight, he is well-loved by Dover NASCAR enthusiasts, residents and visitors alike." the Visit Delaware Villages says.
"Though Dover Motor Speedway is a widely popular tourist attraction due to its exciting races, special events and surrounding campsites, much of its appeal comes from the Monster Mile. Dover Motor Speedway is often referred to as the Monster Mile due to its intense, one-of-a-kind concrete race track, which replaced the original asphalt surface in 1995.
"Perhaps even more famous than the Monster Mile is its enormous mascot, Miles the Monster. This 46-foot-tall, 40,000-pound monument is shown bursting triumphantly out of the ground of Victory Plaza, holding a full-sized car in its raised fist. This iconic structure is meant to pay homage to the legendary drivers who have conquered the Dover Monster Mile over the years."
"Dover International Speedway, the high-banked, one-mile concrete oval in Dover, Del., hosts two NASCAR tripleheader weekends in 2010: May 14-16, and Sept. 24-26, when the “Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup” returns to Dover. Fiercely known as the “Monster Mile” for its ability to destroy cars and driver’s hopes of winning at ease, Dover has been a staple on the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series calendar since its first race in 1969," the
Working On My Redneck says.
"Situated in the heart of the mid-Atlantic region, the fan friendly venue welcomes thousands of race fans to its 750-acre complex each year. Unique to the sport of NASCAR, Dover shares the property with the Dover Downs Hotel & Casino, giving race fans the complete vacation destination.
"Outside of Turn 4 stands the 46-foot-tall Monster Monument at Victory Plaza, presented by AAA, the larger-than-life sculpture of Dover’s signature icon Miles the Monster. The fiberglass structure attracts visitors to the track year round and has become a “must see” stop for tourists coming to Delaware’s capital city."
