Albany, New York, United States--Covering 260,000 square feet (24,000 square meters) on two floors the Walmart Supercenter located in Crossgates Commons in Albany, New York, stock general merchandise, a full-service supermarket and fast food outlets, AND sets the world record for being the World's Largest Walmart Supercenter, according to the WORLD RECORD ACADEMY.
"Having 260,000 square feet spread over two floors makes shopping there an adventure! “For most people who come in, it's an extremely unique experience,” says Dwayne Hazel, Store 2152’s store manager. “If we catch them on the front end, and they ask where pet supplies are and we send them to an escalator, their jaw drops,” the wallmart.com says.

"The two-story Walmart at
Crossgates Commons in Albany NY is fully equipped with a supermarket on the first floor, discount department store merchandise on the second floor, and even a special escalator for shopping carts to help you navigate between the two!", the
Albany.com reports.
"The shopping cart escalator runs alongside the regular escalator, releasing each cart shortly after the shopper steps off.
Walmart's 3,500+ Supercenters across the nation typically average 179,000 square feet. The Crossgates Commons Walmart Supercenter is nearly 260,000 square feet."
"With roughly 100,000 more square-feet than the country's average Walmart, you'll find that this particular Walmart generally has just about everything you're looking for when it comes to shopping," the Only In Your States reports.
"If you happen to be in the Albany area or are prepared to make the drive, then there's no better place to go shopping when you're looking to grab everything you need all from one destination.
"Located right in the Capital Region where you're just a stone's throw away from the area's largest mall, Albany is home to the country's largest Walmart Supercenter!"
"The store is easy to understand once you get past the initial surprise. Downstairs has grocery items and pretty much everything else (apparel, electronics, toys, automotive and the garden center) is upstairs. Because the store is built into a hill, there is an entrance on the second floor and the first floor, the wallmart.com reports.
"To help customers move between floors, the store has elevators and a cart escalator (or, as it’s more commonly known, a “cartalator”) that moves carts alongside the regular people escalator. John shares that for years after the store became two levels, people would visit just to see the cartalator. “They would just come in amazement. ‘Ooh, look at that,’” he laughs.
"Fun fact about the cartalator (pictured above): It requires special carts that don’t have a bottom shelf for bulky items so they can attach to the lift."
"Walmart Inc. (formerly Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.) is an American multinational retail corporation that operates a chain of hypermarkets (also called supercenters), discount department stores, and grocery stores from the United States, headquartered in Bentonville, Arkansas. The company was founded by Sam Walton in nearby Rogers, Arkansas in 1962 and incorporated under Delaware General Corporation Law on October 31, 1969. It also owns and operates Sam's Club retail warehouses.
"Walmart is the
world's largest company by revenue, with about US$570 billion in annual revenue, according to the Fortune Global 500 list in May 2022. It is also the
largest private employer in the world with 2.2 million employees. It is a publicly traded family-owned business, as the company is controlled by the Walton family. Sam Walton's heirs own over 50 percent of Walmart through both their holding company Walton Enterprises and their individual holdings. Walmart was the largest United States grocery retailer in 2019, and 65 percent of Walmart's US$510.329 billion sales came from U.S. operations.
"Walmart was listed on the New York Stock Exchange in 1972. By 1988, it was the most profitable retailer in the U.S., and it had become the largest in terms of revenue by October 1989. The company was originally geographically limited to the South and lower Midwest, but it had stores from coast to coast by the early 1990s. Sam's Club opened in New Jersey in November 1989, and the first California outlet opened in Lancaster, in July 1990. A Walmart in York, Pennsylvania, opened in October 1990, the first main store in the Northeast." (Wikipedia)
"Walmart Supercenters, branded simply as "Walmart", are hypermarkets with sizes varying from 69,000 to 260,000 square feet (6,400 to 24,200 square meters), but averaging about 178,000 square feet (16,500 square meters). These stock general merchandise and a full-service supermarket, including meat and poultry, baked goods, delicatessen, frozen foods, dairy products, garden produce, and fresh seafood.
"Many Walmart Supercenters also have a garden center, pet shop, pharmacy, Tire & Lube Express, optical center, one-hour photo processing lab, portrait studio, and numerous alcove shops, such as cellular phone stores, hair and nail salons, video rental stores, local bank branches (such as Woodforest National Bank branches in newer locations), and fast food outlets.
"The largest Supercenter in the world, covering 260,000 square feet (24,000 square meters) on two floors, is located in Crossgates Commons in Albany, New York." (Wikipedia)
